Message: I too got the email from Ron Davis. I know John does not want any more feedback regarding this issue, however, it has reminded us all how good we have it with this website. John, we can never say it enough, Thank you, thank you for your hard work and dedication to making Cougartown what it is. Thank you to all the alumni who continously write in their feedback and for reminding each other of memories gone by. I always have a smile on my face when I read a fellow classmates memory, because it resembles my own memories as well. We all should keep up the good work in keeping Cougartown THE BEST DAMN HIGH SCHOOL WEBSITE EVER! By the way, I emailed Ron Davis and told him good luck pal!
Aww gee Jily, You shouldn't have.....but I'm glad you did. Thank you

Message: John, I'd like to let you and other readers know that last night a bona fide miracle occured. You'd never guess what happened in a million years. Here it is: Two HHS grads got together and they DID NOT use your website in order to make the connection! Yes, it's true. You see, about 15 years ago Alan Forbess '73 met a guy at a racket club in Ventura. Alan palled around with him for a few years, and the guy eventually married
someone who used to work with
with my girlfriend Lynn. It ended up that the couple moved down the street from Alan in Ojai about three years ago. Still, the couple Alan knew (and we knew) did not put two-and-two together for about three years, but finally on the event of Alan's fifty-ninth or so use of the words "Hawthorne High" in ordinary conversation, it dawned on his friend's wife, "Hey, wait a minute, we know someone else from that school..." Lynn and I happen to visit this couple early in the year each year, because that's the month when all our birthdays are, and so, finally, last night, Alan Forbess and I, and his great wife (I really like that woman!) Liz, my sturdy girlfriend Lynn and the nonhawthornian couple all got together, and I even got a chance to meet Alan's daughter. What a night! Alan carries on a fine HHS tradition of being a distinguished graduate of the Class of '73 who knows how to mix weapons-grade level margaritas (there always was much I admired about the Class of '73), and several pitchers of these useful social lubricants really got things going. I hope to see Alan in LA sometime soon, even if the journey into downtown from Ventura County will require a hepatitis shot at county line in Westlake Village. I'll bet Konnie Krislock's ears were burning last night...someone should check that out...Peace and boat drinks, joseph
Now that's some "Small Cougar World" story, joseph. That's kinda' the second one you've had, what with you living in my dearly departed grandparent's house for many moons. I guess you can't have too many, and who knows, maybe there're a few MORE!!! The important thing is you've found someone who can mix the Weapon of Mass Destruction Margarita, and HE'S A COUG!!!
Great story, joseph, as usual.

Message: I was talking to a Cougartown friend last night and I mentioned to him that Fat Face Fenners Faloon had closed shop a few years ago. It was a landmark, of sorts, for us locals and had the best burgers in Southern California not to mention the best looking barkeeps. It was near the corner of 10th and Hermosa Ave. in Hermosa Beach. It served beer from all over the world. He wondered why nobody had told him, why it hadn't been mentioned here.....so for those of you who remember F.F.F.F.,pop open a cold one today in memory of the fallen Irish pub. BTW, our own, Bill Ennis was one of those barkeeps. He went on to open a great place of his own. Bill? Are you out there? DZ

Just to let you know that I too got the e-mail promoting the new HHS site. It has a couple of features that I like so I became the admin for the class of 76. I don't think it will be any competition because of how well Cougartown is established, but I thought it might be fun to see how it works. Have fun all!
Sounds great Jay, Thanks

Message: The City of Lawndale is putting the finishing touches on the new parking areas in the center of the Blvd. It now appears that they are going to put in a Burger King, Quiznos, a bank, and other "drive thru's" in the center divider. I think I still lived in what is now Gardena when the City of Hawthorne widened El Segundo Blvd from 2 to 4 lanes. They then decided to plant a pipeline down the center. Seems like those concrete sections were 8 or 10 ft in diameter. Yes, I said "drive thru's in the center divider.
We need another A&W in the center divider. That way we could change spark plugs AND have a root beer at the same time.

Message: In 1968 I got a job in a restaurant at at LAX, The Proud Bird. It was on runway two five right on Aviation Blvd. just north of Imperial. I worked there from 1968 to 1975 and during that time I saw many Cougars and former Cougars drop in for a meal or a drink. It was a regular hangout for the employees at Rockwell, Hughes, Northrop, TRW, Zerox, Mattel...all magnets of the local high school and college grads. At the time The Proud Bird was one of the only places in Los Angeles with a seating capacity of 1,500 for private parties. One night there was a party in the Grand Ballroom called, "The Straight and Swingers Costume Ball". I was a young thang at the time and wasn't too sure what a swinger was. I thought Frank Sinatra was a swinger and Dean Martin was a swinger. But.....I had nooooo idea...until I peeked in through the kitchen entrance to see the goings on. tsk, tsk ,tsk....low and behold......there were a few Cougars there..in rare form. It was extreme fashion and extreme craziness. Of course the sixties were like that. Extreme everything. Does anyone remember the Proud Bird? DZ
One of my favorite restaurants in the 60's. At that time they had headsets at the tables so you could hear the pilots talk to the controllers. Real high tech for the 60's. Good memory Liz, thanks...

Pat, Good grief you remember my wedding reception - that's amazing, and unfortunately it didn't last. Yep, good ol Northrop - I worked there in the HR dept for 30 years, left and worked for IBM for 3 years - now at last I'm retired. Do you remember the Davies kids? Wonder what ever happened to all of them. Also, how about Larry Cuiper?
