Message: Hi! I have been reading the feed back pages for some time now and thought I'd sign in and tell you that Cougartown is great. I have checked out a few others and there is no comparison to this! What a creative, caring, generous person you are John to do this for all those Cougars out there!!! I also want to let you know I enjoy reading about all those flash backs of our past....Especially those of Betty Kean Rodriguez and of Cindy Maxson Colby. Betty may not know of me, but I am sure Cindy remembers Roberta and Jean from across the street. Cindy has brought up alot of places and memories that I had totally forgotten about. (I lived on 122nd street, across the street from the Maxsons and down the street from Betty on Sundale. I graduated from HHS in 68....I will be signing up soon. Are the fees annually? When are they due? I love this stuff! Jean
Hi Jean, Glad you're having a great time in Ctown, I know I do. Thanks too for the nice thoughts. Dues are annual, and due in June. Thanks for asking and sorry about chopping off the top of your head in the pic, but that's the way I received it.

Was he in any bands during his high school years? In my years at HHS, there were a ton of bands that played backyard and garage parties all around the area (Rage aka Silent Rage being among the best). What about you folks? And where are they now?

The restaurant was owned by Roy and Imogene Daugherty (sp). It was located either on El Segundo or Imperial Blvds. From here I went on to bigger things - dishwasher at Patmars drive-in!
Hey Ron, Don't remember Roys but Patmars, I do.

Message: Jerry Pat, well, yes I did have to go to the El Molino to remind me of Linda Jones. Yes, John Renn also knocked off my socks with an email, sharing his good memories of you two walking the drainage canals(?), of car club meetings in Bobby Reagan's garage (right, John Baker?), and, oh, yes, of Linda Jones. Billye Ann is out there in her mountain sanctuary, reading the feedbacks. John Baker is amazing, making so many feel so good. By the way, John, Sue Jolly said to tell you she is getting email soon, real soon. I'm wondering if Lucy Wolfe is reading these feedbacks. If she is, it would be great to hear from her...please. All you Cougars are the best.
Yep, I remember Bob Reagan's garage/party room, and we did have car club meetings there. Me, Bob, John Renn, David Stark, Gordon Bell, George Gates, Gabe Fleming, and a few more that have flown from my memory. Glad too that you're enjoying the feedback, Stephanie. See you all on Cruise Night, March 15th.

Message: As I have been browsing through the Feedback, I have not seen mention of Sally's Drive In in Lennox/Inglewood. They brought your food to the car with those little shelves that set on the window. My parents use to take us there on occasion. I also remember walking home from the movies in Lennox/Inglewood with Donny and Jimmy Barton. We lived on 118th St at that time, where they ended up putting in the Boys Market, etc. Hey Pat Underwood, my mind is going, going, almost gone, but do you have a sister from the '62 class? Does onefamilyhistorian mean genealogy research? I remember seeing Jail House Rock, with that sexy and good looking new kid Elvis Presley at the Plaza Theater, we were soooooo daring! Has anyone seen/heard from Danny Kieffer lately? Oh, and Mr Wing's memorial service was very nice, (went with my brother and sister-in-law) he did alot for his church, besides the school. Very busy man. Saw a few of the teachers there. Sorry, got a little wordy. Everyone have a great day!
Hi Nancy, I think Jim Raines knows the whereabouts of Dan Kieffer. Dan, if you're out there, please let us know.

And North American park was the sight of many tackle football games in Jr high. We used to love to go over and play right after they had watered the fields. Hagathorn...I played on a Northrup team that played Eddie and his court once and that was enough...it was like trying to hit sunshine...Happy B-Day Russ, the child of our class...Later Cougs..:o)
YES, that was the Vibrasonic all right. Does anyone remember when cars had 2 speakers; one on the dashboard, and one behind the rear seat, and you had a little switch mounted under the dashboard that said Front-Rear-Both. Now that was techie for the early 60's.

Message: Ahhhh yes Muntz stereo. That brings back a lot of memories. I still have my original 4-track and the 4&8-track players.
In Jerry Miles post he mentioned Madman Muntz. I believe he was known as "Earl Madman Muntz" He used to sell cars and TV's. Any way, John Aguilar's (HHS 63) dad "Big John" was for a time a home distributor for Muntz. One day while John and I were at the Muntz store in the San Fernando Valley to pick up some tape players for "Big John", the Ambassador from El Salvador was also in the store. Earl and one of his sons Steve, I believe, asked John to translate for the ambassador and John did just that. Up to that time, I didn't know that John could speak Spanish. I had only herd he and his sisters speak English. John has always been a very pleasant and polished person and did an excellent job translating.
Oh yes! My old tape players still work.

I think I've mentioned this one before, but who remembers what a Vibrasonic was?

Message: You know..it still amazed me how nice to have a drive up in regardless of going to a fast food place or phamacy. I can imagine the good ol' days where you had to actually get out and had to physically get your stuff! Now I was wondering...what was the first drive thru in Hawthorne (or anywhere else?) Doesn't has to be a food place but I be curious to know. I was wondering what the comments the parent's made seeing such a thing going up? The first one I can remember was McDonald. I remember my first McDonald that open up I beleive on El Segundo Blvd near the Max Factor bldg and near the Golf course (my mind can't remember it exact location). My mom would stop by there from going to church in Hollywood when we got off the Harbor fwy. I remember being at A&W (not a drive thru) near El Camino College they had waitress come out to your car with a tray on your window. Not sure if they were or were not on rollerskates?? Memory frazed me because I might of been like 5 at the time. But I love the good ol' days!
The first Drive Thru that I remember was the Jack in the Box on Imperial just east of Inglewood Av. The weirdest was a drive thru liquor store in Las Vegas.

Message: John Hagethorn - I played my first baseball at the old North American facility on Imperial Hwy. From what I recall, it was located about half way between Aviation and La Cienega. They had several diamonds and a rec center in the middle. They started you on fast pitch at 5 years back then (but a coach did the pitching) - now they make kids that age play T-ball. Great memories from playing there. The facility was there at least until the mid-80's as I remember going there then to get some company discount tickets for Disneyland. I was out there in CA last week and noticed that the the area looks like it is covered by a giant warehouse now. BTW - I was out there for the American Meteorological Society meeting and experienced the big Southern CA rain storm. The ceiling in the exposition room leaked in twelve places. When I got back to Baltimore it took me three hours plus to dig my car out of the snow. Maybe large groups of meteorologists do bring bad weather after all.

I am very glad to have had the pleasure of spending the day with a delightful and charming childhood friend, grown up. Fortunate, I am, I felt like Gilligan for a day!
Response to Laurie Kelleher... I was a wee-wee tot when the Lennox theater burned, the second time, in the middle of the night. It was empty that second time. We lived on Burin Avenue behind it and the Pappy had a car lot, directly north, next to it. I remember Pappy moving all of the cars as fast as he could away from the burning theater. Must have been age 5 at the time! Corvettes, Cadillacs, Studebakers and Edsels! Reminded me of Pup & Taco -- the novel approach to diversity in the 60's! -- on the corner of Hawthorne Boulevard and Lennox Boulevard.
My first drive in movie was Bonnie and Clyde at the Century Drive In. HOW do we remember these things?
Good Times To All!

When we moved to Haw. in 50, it was mostly a one lane on each side of the drainage ditch up to Rosecrans, no curbs or gutters, then 2 lanes north with (if I remember crs right), parking in the middle to Broadway then the streetcar
