Message: JB, point taken about Cal Ripken, never thought of it that way, and here comes the big BUT...Maybe Cal Ripken should be under an "amazing acheivement in baseball" category. In any case, how could we overlook Nolan Ryan. Didn't he pitch 7 no-hitters in his career? One in his 40's? I imagine it is alot harder to pitch a no-hitter today with most of MLB on steriods or strength enhancers. Anyway good sir, I truly respect your opinion, and you have shown yourself to be a baseball purist. Dean is correct, it's not over till the fat lady sings! I will be wearing Red on Saturday!

Message: You ask what school I graduated from...John H. Frances Polytechnic HS in Sun Valley, CA. I grew up in Hawthorne though. I still consider it my hometown. My family moved to the stinkin' Valley when I was 13. I do have 3 older brothers and sister, all grads of HHS. In fact, my older bro still lives in Hawthorne. I also have 2 nieces and a newphew that graduated from HHS and another niece and nephew that graduated from Lennox High, which is no longer around. My cousin also lives in Hawthorne and his boys are following in the family footsteps as well and are on their way to graduating from HHS. By the way, my husband is one of the BIGGEST Beach Boy Fans I know. Anything else you want to know?
No, that's pretty much your autobiography.

Message: JB and All You Angel Fans- Do not give up hope. This is the craziest World Series in memory (most HRs and runs scored, worst pitching, etc). An Angel victory is still possible if the starting pitching comes through. I am not betting one way or the other or crowing just yet, because I have seen how tough minded the Angels are. However, someone has to come out and throw good starting baseball for 2 days in a row and go deeper into the game so that the well rested relievers can show their stuff. Whoever gets pitching, will win. But watch out now that all the Giant support players, Kent especially, are on fire.
Little League is fun, JB, just not on the world stage. I am sure that you just love little D-Bake, the Giants lucky charm, who almost bit the farm if it were not for JT Snow. I can hear you now, "When I played the game, no kids in the dugout, women PA announcers, and freakin weirdos in the stands who believe everyday is Halloween (exception made for USC frat boys at home football games)!"
Get that T-shirt ready for shippin,
El Gigante Grande
Have a good weekend all and remember, it is just a game played by big kids who make a thousand times what we do every day.

GO ANGELS!!!

Re: the Hep C motorcycle ride through Hawthorne on Sudnay: Isn't Mayor Guidi a Lennox High grad? Kid Rock is playing at the Hollywood Bowl Sunday night opening for Aerosmith -- now we know how he'll be riding in a parade instead of preparing for that show! Wildly unsubstantiated rumors have it that members of the Rolling Stones (also in town next week, any Cougs going?) and members of Aerosmith will show up at the Whisky on 11/3 to sit in with Sticky Fingers (opening act that night? Which One's Pink?)

Message: JB, C'mon now, don't go soft on us. Yes, if the Giants win the WS, it will be the first time SINCE moving to California, however the true virgins are the Angels. Last night was painful to watch, it was like sort of watching the Dodgers play, felt right at home. The only good thing about last night was that I finally won the baseball pool at work. Who wants to go to lunch? Sloey, you up for pancakes? What do $50.00 worth of pancakes look like? Anyhow, will be watching and rooting for the Halo's on Saturday. Everyone have a great weekend, and be safe. Enza, where are you girl?
One more thing before I let everyone go. I guess at game 4, it was announced what the most memorable moment in baseball was, and Cal Ripken's consecutive game record was it. Yes, it is impressive, but I don't recall where I was or what I was doing when he did it. That moment was not even pivitol in winning or losing a game or a series. I could think of other moments that were more memorable. My favorite of course was when Kirk Gibson hit that homerun against the A's in game 1 of the 88 world series. What do you think should have gotten the most memorable award? Go Angels, please!

Oh I'm still the Angels biggest fan, but both teams want this one BAD. Are there any other 50's or early 60's Angels fans out there?
GO ANGELS!!
I would say it would be hard to beat Cals record for the most memorable. You just don't realize how hard that one is to acquire. 2632 Games.....From May 30th 1982 to September 20th 1998, Cal Ripken missed NO GAMES. That's 502 games more than the old (Gehrig's) record and 502 games, in itself, is one heck of a streak. 17 YEARS without missing a GAME. The Gibson home run was memorable to Dodger fans, but Cals atreak means INSTANT Hall of Fame.

Hey Don, I didn't hang out at Harveys Broiler but was there a few times. I would say it was one of the most popular Drive Ins in the early 60's, along with The Wich Stand, Bobs Big Boy in Burbank, and Scrivners.
Good luck with your mission.

We have been on the Friends of Johnies committee since early June of this year, helping to get petitions signed, selling t-shirts at various cruise-ins selling tickets to the Blasters concert and anything else we can do to help. thats all for now GO ANGELS

Message: Hi Hawthorne, I forgot to name those in the car with me. The driver of the "bug" is Danny Kieffer and the two setting out, on top are (nearest to camera) Alan Hauge and Don Conders. Raymond Wheeler has his head and arm out nearest the camera and I'm the guy with my head out on the passenger side. Back in 1960 I bought my first car. It was a '51 Chevy painted metallic blue. As you know, everyone had a name on their car. So, since my car was a six cylinder, which were also known as "six bangers", I decided to name my first set of wheels "Sex Banger." I really got alot of attention driving through the "A" with that on my rear fenders. The guys would always laugh but the girls just had quizzical looks on their faces. I had to stay clear of my Mom for a long time and park down the street when I went to my girlfriends house. Finally I thought it was time to get rid of the name. Alan said he would paint my little Chevy for nothing as long as he could choose the color. He painted it silver metallic with candy red scallops and deep candy burgandy nearest the chrome. Remember how everyone was painting the bottoms of their cars white in those days? I painted mine red to match the new paint job. After nine transmissions later, I traded it for a '40 Ford coupe.
10-4.....GO ANGELS!!!

I did raise 2 boys but the only time I knew about anything close to this my youngest was about 4 years old. My 14 year old grandaughter wants a convertible some day. Her mother and I say no, too many carjacking and kidnappings. I think this story will kill any desire for her to own one. Thank goodness I never had one.
