Message: All this talk about my friend and inspiration Dick Dale!!! After getting acquainted thru emails I met him in Colorado Springs and stayed at his hotel. I had a private hour or so of some 1 on 1 with my hero. Then he even put me on his guest list for that nites concert...now this isn't the end!
In June when I flew in for Barbara Wigleys memorial, I checked his schedule and he was playin at the Galaxy Theatre on Beach Blvd. So I emailed him and he gave me both his cell phone #s!!! We stay in touch thru emails and plan on hookin up again soon...he's 65 BUT drippin with sex!!!

Susie, be careful with those old rock and rollers. First of all he's 65 and a musician so he's probably dripping with something, but it's NOT sex.

Message: Hello All; Thanks to John, and a couple guys that I work with, the huge case of the Klez Virus that had taken over my office computer has finally been nuked. What a pain in the fanny. I hope it didn't get passed on to any of you guys.
Congratulations to John on another fine looking grandchild. I can't wait for the day when we all get together at king harbor, rent a little dingy and a bait sled and teach our grandkids about bonitas (like we did our own kids).
Get well quick Sloey
M.S.

That sounds like a fun day. The last time we did it with your two, the fish were jumping into the boat. I think we tied on Budweiser pull tabs for bait and that's all we needed.

Come on down and do the surfer stomp with us...DZ

Message: INCIDENTALLY ... can't resist this one! You know all this talk about bike riding on THE STRAND from John, Sloey and Kissin'Dan? NOT! No banana! RUMOR! It's just that ... rumor. They do NOT ride bicycles on the strand and I had a little talk with the guy at that place called GOOD STUFF where they have that camera. It is well known in the beach community that these three guys drive down to the cam at GOOD STUFF, take their bikes out of the vehicle, pose for the camera and then put their bikes back IN the vehicle and drive away ... that IS! AFTER they have had pancakes with lots and lots of gooey syrup! YUP! There you have it! I did a lot of snooping around and I have this first-hand! By the way ... they DO have GREAT PANCAKES there! the princess
P.S. Oh yeah! And the big Sloey fall? STAGED!!! Yup! There you have it!
P.P.S. And what's this about Sloey winning that last contest??? I think that's staged, too! What was his statement ... was that printed while I was gone and I missed it or was it just kept hush-hush!??? Come on, John ... tell ALL!

It was printed while you were gone and not staged. Actually Janet and Linda picked the winner.
The pancake story is false. Never ate there but once with Janet. We don't ride there anymore. It's PV for Dan and me now.

Message: HEY COUGS! WOW! What a trip! Stayed right on The Strand at a friend's beach house; started out with a couple hours ON the beach and then a dinner party, a party-party, and Cruise Night! The dinner party at Bob Jensen's was great; the Dori-Do at Elizabeth's house was fantastic; and I think I met next to EVERYONE at Cruise Night at Foster's. Being the bashful, quiet type, I walked right up to people and said "HI! I'm Doris; you know ... the Princess? Who are you!?" And the french fries and milk shakes at Foster Freeze are every bit as good as I remembered! What a great FAMILY Cougartown has allowed us to become ... we all have the same roots of Hawthorne, California and Hawthorne High School, and THAT ... is why we are family. Everyone was so friendly and good to me and I had such a good time. I finally met our very own JOHN BAKER, and of course, his main squeeze, JANET aka JB2; met Harry Plotkin and his very pretty lady, Kathy; Kissin' Dan (who gave me a very warm welcome ... eat your heart out Tilly) and Ann, as did so many others bestow upon me their warm welcomes ... Walter, Don DiTomasso, Karen Kuehl, Judi and Russ Jacobsen, and so many more whose names, due to my senior condition (HA!), I cannot remember right now. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and it was so very much appreciated. Was SO disappointed NOT to meet (and who ARE now on my S-list) Paco, Sloey, Backus, and Chris Hood, but DID meet 2/3 of the Sloey brudders and 1/2 of the Hood clan, so all was not lost! OH YEAH! Marsha and the HOODMAN! I met them. What lovely people went to HHS!!!! Can't wait to make another of the Cruise Nights, albeit the air travel to and fro leaves a lot to be desired these days what with having to be at the the airports TWO HOURS before flight time, having luggage rummaged through at will, and just the USUAL at the L.A. Airport. UGH! AH YES!!! Cannot leave out the very BEST party I've ever attended ... the Dori-Do at DZ's place. What a warm and loving feeling I had from the time I arrived t:-D Well, I'm tired now just reliving it!!! THANK YOU TO ONE AND ALL who managed to make a little old lady from beautiful downtown Twin Falls, Idaho feel welcome and warm and cared for! GAWD! I HAD FUN, FUN, FUN!
doriswhonowthinkssheisdefinitelyaprincess!

Glad you had a great time, Doris. Next time it'll be even better as we'll make sure your S-list is there too, or we'll just go door-to-door.

Message: John: Thanks again for a great cruise night a few weeks ago. It was fun once again to see old friends and just hang out with HHS alumni. With Rich and Mary's 60's reunion the weekend before it made for a very cool September.
This weekend I found the picture I spoke about on CT years ago when several of us in 1961 went to the A&W in a VW Bug and ordered 100 Root Beers. Beside myself there was Danny Kiefer('62), Don Conder('60), Jim Raines('62) and a kid from Lennox, Raymond Wheeler. The owner of the "A" took the picture and Raymond carried it in his wallet for years. He gave it to me years later and it ended up in a box with my class ring and was discovered just this past weekend. I want to send it in to CT so after scanning it, then what? Oh yeah, and I'm sure if Jimmy Raines sees this message he will want everyone to know what happened after five guys drank 100 Root Beers?
Alan

AT LAST!! Thanks Alan; I can't wait to see it. After scanning it, email it as an attachment to john14@cougartown.com
I'll add it up here somewhere, for all to see. The other thing that sounds a little cramped is FIVE guys in a VW bug with 100 root beers in their bladders. There has to be a pit stop in this story somewhere.

Dick Dale played all the Oldies. I saw lots of my favorite cars of all time..the 56 Nomad, even one that looked alot like my first boyfriends'. It is a fun weekend for sure...my kids (9 years old and 13) can't believe how excited I get when I see an "old car". Brings back memories, I guess.

Thanks to all in charge of organizing Cruise Night. I got to see some good friends that I hadn't seen in several years. Unfortunately, I got so caught up visiting with my old friends from the 70's that I didn't get to meet some of the feedback regulars as I had hoped to do. Hope we'll get a chance to come to another Cruise Night. Lots of nice cars and great company! Thanks again!

Thanks Kathy, Cruise nights are lots of fun and happen twice a year. We'll have another one in February or March.

How odd though that my youngest Trevor was born on your birthday (8/28) and I too have a son named Evan James, but then so does Bruce Springsteen, and every one else I know who has named their son Evan, I guess James is a natural middle name for Evan, it sort of rolls together nicely. Hope your daughter is doing well. Congratulations again!
