Message: Hey Jim, thanks for the spelling correction on Sandy Koufax. I don't know how that happened. I'm usually not that careless with my typing/spelling. Although, I seem to think that Vin Scully's Mom would of called him Vincent when he was a young whippersnapper~Or perhaps even Vincenzo, if he was so lucky to be of Italian heritage. Do you think that could be a possibility....SLOIE?? :-)
Forever a Sports Fan...no matter what the 'boys' say.
Ciao, Vincenza
Jim, I think Vincenza was thinking of number 23, Andy Kofax. He came up for a cup a coffee in 1966. Nice jewish boy....you remember don't you??

Message: I think the mystery eyes belong to Coach Sevier....and Robb, there were no shower curtains in the girls locker room. For whatever reason, girls in the 70's did not shower after P.E. - it was kind of unwritten though I do recall one girl doing it when I was a freshman or sophomore and boy was SHE the talk of the class! Much too much modesty I suspect....I'll bet those shower heads haven't fired up in over 30 years....Happy 4th of July everyone. Be sure to take a moment and say the pledge LOUD AND CLEAR. Whatever version you wish to use is fine with me, as long as you bless America....
No, it's not Coach Ron, but nice guess.

Message: I noticed in an earlier posting that, in addition to moving Senior Square, the boys' locker room is to be torn down. Do you remember the restroom in the locker room? It was a fairly large room with the expected sinks, urinals and toilets but it lacked one thing that any normal campus or public restroom had; there were no stalls around the toilets. They were just in the wide open. The locker rooms had no privacy but getting undressed or showering in a crowd were normal and did not seem to be a big deal. Using those totally open toilets, on the other hand, was something that seemed to keep the restrooms empty. On the plus side, I suppose they were free of smokers. We were told that the girls, on the other hand, actually had curtains in their showers. True?
Hi Robb, I don't even remember bathrooms in the locker room at all. Everyone used the shower.

Message: I'm really enjoying cheering for the LA Dodgers again. However, why is it that some professional teams have players who do the most ridiculous moves/stance?~(ie, J. Kidd and his free throw kisses, and Counsell with his arms WAY over his head when he's up to bat.) Why does this guy have to hold his bat SOOO high? I almost fell off my chair when Vince Scully said that it reminded him of when he rode the subway in NY and had to hold onto the overhead strap! Vince is like Chick Hearn~there's NO ONE out there quite like them. It wouldn't be the Lakers or Dodgers without them calling the games. AND, I also remember Vince plugging Farmer John back in the day when Drysdale and Kofax were the Stars of that era. The only difference is now he's not holding up a package of sausage links! HA! :-) Great Memories for this Sicilian Jock~ette!
I remember back in the 50's and 60's when say Wally Moon would hit a homer, Vinny would say, "A 10 dollar book of Union Oil Auto Script goes out to Wally Moon and another 10 dollar book to Mr and Mrs Harry Pendergast of Pasadena." Wally and Harry wouldn't have to worry about gas money for a month.

There are zillions of sites like lucianne.com where you can type your fingers off, unload your feelings and have an audience of millions. Reading between the lines it seems as though you're asking John to take sides. He has graciously built this community as natural ground for us to meet so why ruin it? Being familiar with web operations I can tell you it takes a lot of work to hand post each of these feedback messages and he must have a great deal more patience than I. Of course what does an old 64 year old dinosaur like me know, at least for a few more days? For you engineers that's 64000.-003 or (8²) or (4³) and for the computer geeks 3F hex. Message: Hey Cougs, Are we finished rippin each other a new one? That's one good thing about America, we have the right to say our peace and live with it. One thing that will always stay with me is that in 1970 I was finishing my freshman year at HHS and I took a trip up to Berkeley to visit some friends. This is when Nixon and his staff decided to invade Cambodia. I watched in disbelief at the number of students, not in the rally, got hammered by Reagans goons. Most of the students watched the rally, others voiced their feelings about the invasion. Then all hell broke loose. I didn't know how much a night stick could hurt until hit in the ribs. I wasn't doing anything but observing the rally. But there were cops and guardsmen everywhere. Swinging and swinging. There were maybe 200 students protesting and a thousand watching, but it ended up on the news as a campus gone crazy. The Viet Nam War hit home like no other. It was a time of loss and great sacrifice by many. I had friends who died there and friends and a cousin who returned, with many hidden secrets. I supported their efforts but denounced the war. I was 15 and the lasting effect and knot on my ribs has never left. I'm in support of the fight against terrorism, but this is lasting too long. The masters make the rules for the wise men and the fools.....

As I read through the pages and comments I can’t help notice and feel a sense of pride at what truly makes this great nation of ours so special. That being the freedom to voice our different religious, political and personal thoughts even if they differ from those of the majority. More importantly as I read through the differences of opinion that are posted here. One can’t help but notice through all of the differences we share, the one common bond that is shared by all is where we came from and the sense of love that we have for having the privilege of growing up in a very special place called Hawthorne, CA. ... We Are Proud, We are Loud and We are forever... COUGARS... Have a very safe and enjoyable 4th of July

Speaking of Dodger Stadium, wasn't it you that tried to catch a high pop-foul in a brand new $5.00 cup of beer? It seems like I remember your Dad telling me something about that. Oh please remind me of the details.
By the way I think the engraved bricks (especially a memorial section) would be a terrific idea..
Happy and Careful 4th. to you all!!
M.S.
Yeah, back in the mid-60's, walking down the aisle with a couple of beers and NOW I get my ONLY LIFETIME CHANCE at a "can of corn" pop foul. I tried to snag it with one of the cups of beer, but alas, the ball went right down and out the bottom of the cup, drenching me and everyone else in the "Beer Blast Zone". I was NOT the most popular person on Aisle 135 that night. I not only lost a 3 dollar baseball but a large 75 cent beer.

We have a big section in Santa Maria where historical families of the area have their names in brick. I'd be willing to have a memorial brick for my brother in SS. It's a great idea and it'd help the school out too. What's this about an official Alumni Association? Isn't there already one? Us? Aren't you already the King of this Association, John? Maybe we should get a charter! Phillipes sounds like a great place to have a Run. And the Dodgers or Halos game trip sounds like fun too. I'll bring some Paso Robles wine from our wine country. You might want to make a trip up this way for a Wine Tasting Cougar Party someday. We have lots up here and good award winning wines too. I live right across the street from the Meridian wine storage warehouses where they age the wine. The smell is irrestible!! They gave me 12 wine barrels ... empty though. I'm making planters out of them. Happy Fourth!!
Hi Karen, Yes, we are the HHS Alumni Association and darn proud of it.
