(still remember my "stage fright").....and no, I don't think we won the dance contest...but I can remember some of it, as if it were yesterday!

I may be getting older, but I still have some pride! Anyhow, this website is alot of fun. I am glad to see some alums from '77 speak up.
Thanks Jill, Yes I do need a 77 El Molino.......well actually, I need someone with a quality scanner and a 77 El Molino, that can scan them for the website. I just don't have time to scan all the Senior pics any more.

Message: I too have been looking through my El Molino checking out names that sound familiar to faces that may jog this memory of mine (what there is left of it). It amazes me, as I went down the prom attendees list, how many alumni from the class of '66 are not pictured with the other seniors. Oh well, I don't look like my senior picture, so those won't help us recognize each other anyway!
No you don't........ actually I'm probably one of the few HHSers from the 60's that has managed to keep my teenage looks.

remember you as a good friend of Steve. You and a girlfriend of yours used to hang with him, though her name escapes what's left of my memory.
I have been out of touch with Steve for many years, though my younger brother, Dave (class 79) goes to his sports bar, Coaches, in Hawthorne
for lunch every now and then. I also remember that I had a crush on Kristi McCormick, however being my shy self, I never acted on it.
Thanks to John B. for so many trips down memory lane.
Thanks Mike for making an appearance......sorry, I couldn't find your Sophomore pic.

The Lloyd Thaxton Show was my favorite local after-school dance show. I think Al Jarvis had a dance show too, after he had the Juke Box Jury show.
"Will it be a HIT.......or a miss"
Other dance shows that I remember; Shivaree, 9th Street West, and Where The Action Is.

I had no biological brothers in the Hawthorne area. I did have the following step brothers over the course of the years Davy Whippo, Brian Cheek, Steve Cheek and Jimmy Cheek. Bob, thank you for the nice
comments (though I'm not sure I agree with the "gracefully" part -- my nose looked a lot smaller when I had enough hair to wear it long!) You, on the other hand, have the same boyish good looks that made you a superstar with the ladies! Hey, maybe we'll see ya at the 25th -- 2002 is not that far away. DJ

Something has come up that we cannot remember (as in CRS) and I am hoping some other Cougar out there can help. What was the name of the dance show our school was featured on in 1959? I think the studio was on Hollywood Blvd., and that the name of the show was a man's name. I remember the guest was Sammy Cahn, composer and pianist. We all danced 'a la American Bandstand' and had a great time. I think it was on channel 9. Anxiously awaiting to hear from someone with a memory!
How about the Lloyd Thaxton Show?

For those of you who have not yet registered, you can call and make a credit card payment of $80 per person with Golden State Reunions to make sure a dinner is reserved for you, or you can pay at the door and take your chances. If you don't want dinner, it will cost you $40 per person. The telephone number for Golden State Reunions is 1-760-433-4558. If you have any problems with getting a reservation with Golden State, please call me toll-free at 1-866-574-7763. All but six people who have signed up for the prom are also going to the reunion, plus many others who are not attending the prom will be at the reunion, so it's going to be a great time. We have lots of door prizes that have been donated by HHS alumni, including hockey tickets. Everyone would like to see you there, put on your casual clothes, because this is going to be a very casual event, and come out and see all your old friends.

Message: God, I hate having to do this to the room, but yet another sad day for Cougartown. Another one of us Cougs is no longer with us. I found out too late on Friday afternoon/evening to post before the weekend. This was told to me by a good friend, Scott Beers, Lawndale High School class of 1976 about Scott Houghton, class of 1978 here at HHS:
Scott Houghton died of hepatitus on May 26, 2001. He was not married nor had any kids but had the same girlfriend for 10 years and had been battling this hepatitus for years. He lived in a small Colorado town as a farmer and sometime small engine mechanic. Scott was told this by his sister, Cindy, class of 1976 here at HHS.
I first met Scott in my homeroom class at Dana Jr. High. We both had Mrs. Toffness, and anyone who had her remembers her as the short, sweet old woman who was born and raised in Hawaii and loved to talk about her days back then around the surf crowds. She was sweet, but warned us if we got her mad or on her bad side, she could be tough. Anyhow, Scott was the "class clown!" He would say and do such things to this poor woman, hide stuff in her desk that would pop out at her, etc. We all should of been ashamed of ourselves for laughing at it all hysterically and almost causing poor Mrs. T a massive coronary once or twice from getting so upset with him and yelling so profusely, but he was just so funny and would just stop at nothing for a laugh! But, if you were Scott's friend, if you had a bad day or whatever, he could cheer you up in no time or was there for you however you needed him. He was a big lug of a guy, with a goofy smile and hearty laugh! I am so sad to hear this happened to him at the age of 41. Scott was a good guy. He will be sorely missed.

Message: Jill, regarding Mike Deakins, I loved that "Don Brewer" fro he had going. He used to live at 4672 w 118th St, Apt #A (between Eucalyptus & Truro). I know because when his family moved out, mine moved in (circa 1973-74). Russ and Mike turned me on to Kansas LONG before there was a Carry On My Wayward Son (we're talkin Song for America). At the 20 year, Russ told me that he's still playing and that he does a lot of Christian music. He is such a sweetheart (as is his wife). I reminded Russ of a "video" (actually a Super 8) he made in 6th grade (circa 1970) with Michael called "Pollution Everywhere" which featured their original composition by the same name AND "time lapse" photography showing trash piling up at Eucalyptus Park. Stylistically it looked like an Enviromentally conscious Monkees clip. Actually it was a pretty impressive endeavor from a couple of 12 year olds. Ironically, it seemed to have more of an impact on me than it did on Russ -- at the 20 year he told me that he had forgotten all about the film until I reminded him of it. (And speaking of Russ, maybe I'll trot out the Linda Cota story for everyone's enjoyment)

I called our Judy last night and she couldn't come to the phone because she was busy writing "Dan Dye loves me" on her old peachie folders. Poor Janny, he was very upset when she started writing Mrs. Dan Dye. I told him not to worry, there is already a Mrs. Dan Dye........Ann Dye, and I don't think Ann is the least bit worried.
No, she's not worried about Dan, but Judy is like that nutty woman, Gwen Crows, in Fateful Attachment. Watch your kitchen Ann, if you find a boilin' bunny on the stove, I think I just might know who put it there.
