PROM NIGHT UPDATE: Looks like I've gotten another '64 alumni with a ticket in his hand.. RICHARD CROUCH. And next, let me say that Janet Humphreys Burkett, John Baker, Janny & myself will be schlepping down to the Marriott to plan our buffet style menu for PROM NIGHT. I don't want to worry ya, but unless I see more ticket sales this week, you're all gonna be eating "squid sandwiches with a sauerkraut chaser".. I've said it before & I'll say it again.. "I know how to work your last good nerve and I know where you live-don't make me come get ya!"... August 18th will be here faster than you think.. don't wait til the last minute to get your tickets. Now John Boy.. give us a great slow dance to get us in the mood.. How about "This I Swear" by the Skyliners. OK boys & girls.. get up and get in the mood! Come on Janny.. and keep those hands where I can see them.
Judy Wudy.
Actually Judy is just kidding about the squid and sauerkraut.

Message: Good job Sloey, you crack me up. Mike Backus, again you astound me.
I have to add a story about old friends getting together. I received an e-mail from Jeannie Blevins, she and I, along with many other lost friends were in Brownies and Girl Scouts together. Jeannie and I, she from South Bay and me from Laguna Hills met in Seal Beach for a little catching up, ok, and a couple of drinks, we hadn't seen each other in at least 40 years, it seems like no time had passed, we knew each other right off and just had a wonderful evening. If any of you have the chance to reconnect, don't let the opportunity slip away, to sit across the table and look into the face and see the little girl you used to know is really something special. Thanks Jeannie, let's do it again.
Thanks Cindy, That's exactly what it's all about. Glad you reconnected with Jeannie. Now stay in contact.

Message: And now you all know why we love Backus. I'm trying like crazy to get him to come to the prom and be my date since he failed me in high school so anyone else who's thinking of working that angle will have to line up behind me. I WILL, however, share him and his wonderful stories, smiles and eyes with any Cougar who meets us there. And Sloey, you had me going....I can't wait to get you all in one place, at one time and start the stories going. And Baker, the reason for the 12 hour dry period the other day is that you now have us on an odd schedule what with having to be "on the wagon" each weekend. I sign on and check anyway, hoping for news.....And where the heck has V5 been??
Yeah I do think the weekends slow down the feedback, but 12 HOURS??!! I thought someone unplugged the Server. Back to normal now though. And I don't know where V5 is, but V6 is all signed up for the Prom. I'll believe it when I see it.

I said, "69" He said, "I graduated in 90." Let me do the math for you.....that's 21 years folks. I'm old enough to be his mother. Anyway, I told him about CT. He'll be checking in tonight. So, here's to the cutie in the UPS uniform. If I was 20 years younger you'd still be here............The Goddess

Message: In 1983 our Grandmother had died and my brothers and I flew to Detroit on a Thursday night red-eye for a Saturday funeral. With 4 sons whose ages at that time were 8, 5, 2, and 1, I was not allowed to be gone long so I was returning Saturday night after the funeral. We arrived early Friday, spent some time with my Aunt and Mother, who had left Tuesday night, and cousins we hadn’t seen for 20 years. Saturday the funeral was a real celebration of our Grandma’s life but it also had some sadness associated to it even though she had not been sick, died peacefully and was 89. Saturday evening I hitched a ride to Detroit with one of my cousins who was going home that evening. Waiting for the plane I called home only to discover that the phone had been disconnected [we lived in Holly Glen and all the numbers with a prefix of 973 had changed Friday night to 643, I later remembered]. So there I was all alone in Detroit, sad, lonely and not knowing what was or if, anyone was waiting for me in California. Well I went to the Men’s room, when there across the room was a familiar friendly face. I smiled, he smiled, I waved, he waved. I went over to him and, I must have looked like I really needed a friend, because he just nodded and smiled all through our conversation reliving all the good times in Hawthorne. Before long it was time to go, and I said good-bye and I realized that I could not remember his name as I left the men’s room. As the door shut, and I turned to head for my gate, I passed two more familiar faces who just stared at me and as I passed I heard one of them say, “That’s the nut that was in the head talking to himself in the mirror. I am sure glad I am not on his flight!”
Man, I thought it was a slow day for ME......

Message:
Have you ever had the experience of running into someone you knew
in an unexpected place? I remember once in high school I ran into
a classmate from HHS hundreds of miles from home. We hardly
knew each other at school, really just enough to recognize each
other. I was surprised at how thrilled I was to see a familiar face
from HHS. We talked and talked like we were best friends. I
realized that they were feeling the same thing, something familiar
and comfortable far from home. From that point on we always
stopped and talked to each other when we saw each other around
campus. All because we had shared that one moment. Getting back
in touch with old friends is very much like this. But what are a few
hundred miles compared with 20, 30, 40 years? If you are a hundred
miles from home you know that you can get back. If you are 30 years
from 'home', there is only one way back. In the company of the people
that you shared that place and time with. Old acquaintances become good
friends. Old friends become something that you need a few years
of road behind you to fully appreciate. They're like coming home.
Well put Mike, I totally agree and hope you'll make it the few hundred miles down here to Prom Night. I feel that you ARE an old friend; I just haven't met you yet. Take care.......

Message: Prom Night 2001 is only three months away! Are you planning on attending? If so, get your ticket before it is too late! Unfortunately, I missed my Senior Prom and there is no going back to change that fact. After graduation, I was fortunate of having the opportunity of going to a couple other Proms. I am glad I did, these events are memorable. I just came across a picture from the last Prom that I attended, “One Enchanted Evening” Class of 67 Inglewood High.
I attend with Kitty Morgan Inglewood Class of 67. I would appreciate help in finding Kitty since I lost contact with her many years ago. If any Cougars have Sentinel friends or mates that may have attended Inglewood High during the mid to late 60’s that can help, please have them send me an email. Thanks Cougars.
Remember Proms are memorable events. My ticket is paid for and I am not going to miss this one, are you?
OK, I know someone has to know Kitty. Please tell Bill where she is. She looks like a very nice young lady even though she was from that OTHER school.
Good luck Bill in finding Kitty and we'll see you at the Prom, regardless.

Message: Oh boy, where is Alan Nelson's spirit of loyalty. Don't be so smug over there in Arizona. California is the 7th largest economy in the WORLD and if we go down, there you go too. I don't think California will stop selling other states vegetables, fruits, nuts, dairy products, software, movies, airplanes, or defense systems, but it's an interesting thought. We also produce over 17 million gallons of wine per year. We'll need all of it to drown our sorrows when we think about the fact that no matter how many California products we export to make everyone's lives better, no one can see their way clear to help us out with a little electricity. Maybe we'll all just have to move to Arizona! That ought to fix it.
Yeah and I think about two thirds of that wine goes to the party animals at Parker AZ, so Alan, send me some volts.

Funny how just across the river, we've got more than enough electricity. We just broke ground on a new power plant just east of Parker. We're jealous, as we've never been there. But I also want to mention that there are many COUGS with a great deal of longevity with their marriages. John and Cheryl Nicocia, Royal and Pat Lord, Jim and Sandy West, Jim and Sandi Perry, Tom and Diane Porter, Rich and Mary Sloan. Most of these COUGS have more than 35 yrs plus in their marriages. SO YOU YOUNG KIDS need to hang in there and work hard like we have. I'm feeling better and ready to come back to the COUGARTOWN office and have another party, even if it did give me "P" monia. And by the way Judy Wudy, did I tell you I got to hug Dan Dye also? Dan and Ann I will send you an e-mail this week, I promise. Geez I got to hug about everybody in California. Glad Dan wasn't too friendly. By the way Sandi Tully Perry, I'm going to have to go to a Psychiatrist to get that image of Jim in the boat on lake Mead out of my mind:) . Other than that we're normal. Other than you dumping me at the Jr Prom! LOL, LOL! MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU! JAKE N JUDE!
