Message: John, Im with all, You need to find away to keep Cougartown going!! You need help, then lets get a group together to help you sort things out. Ask and I bet there would be a few Cougartown Folk who would be able to help. This is NO disrespect to Sloey and Robin, but COUGARTOWN is John's baby and without John then there is no Cougartown! There is a whole group who were there right at the first when John started putting Cougartown together, so it is very very sad/hard to see the possiblity of COUGARTOWN going to sleep. John, I have known you since we were 13, we all have gone through many things in our life; saddness, happiness, but to say I knew the KING of Cougartown is the best!! DO NOT GIVE UP. Love Ya John...... ALWAY A COUG!!!!
Hi Loretta, Thank you for your concern and I just want to clarify this realcougartown.com thing.
It's a Sloey/Hood joke. That's all it is. It's tongue in cheek. It's meant to be funny. I have heard from many Cougs who are worried that realcougartown is trying to take over Cougartown. Please do not fret. There's no such thing as realcougartown.com.
It seems like Sloey starts these things and I DO GO ALONG, but I'M the one who has to answer all the email. Sloey/Hoody, it's over. Let's put it to rest.
Loretta, Cougartown will survive too. Don't you worry. We just have to work out a few things.
I thought I was 12½ when we met......

(Glad to Know we don’t do any plugs on this site).
Thanks wa, "with the best oldies collection this side of Dick Clark's" for straightening that all out.

Thanks Laurie, but it never crossed my mind that I was at a "third place". It was always just a "hangout".
Good luck on your research.

In the fog of distant memory, it seems that it had something to do with the celing of the auditorium but I just can remember. Does anyone remember the situation to which I am referring? Message: Hi John Baker, I didn't know the ruckous about your site was for real. I was hoping it wasn't true. I just wanted to say goodbye if it was to end. If I went to your school I could at least have my wife cut a check. No. She didn't go either. She doesn't share my sympathy. I hope it all turns out alright though.
Hello sadness! I suppose this is it. Real Cougar town? What is that anyway? Did I miss something?
I'm not privy to what's been going on. Sorry for yours and Cougartowns misfortune. It's been nice reminiscing with all the cool people. That guy was right when he said it. It's nice, just to check out the board, wherever you happen to lay your hat. And that girl with the nice words about my fourth grade teacher at Cabrillo, Mrs. Jansta. I have really enjoyed sharing some memories with the "people"! Wow! I think I may have even known a Bev Borland back in the 1972 I think was the year. I swear she had blue eyes, dark hair, and a smokey voice. They were both divorced. She had two girls. Can anyone verify that? Drop me line if it is. My Dad dated a Bev back then.
Hawthorne. Though I havn't lived there for twenty-six years, it will remain in my thoughts always. It looks like most of the kids that lived there got the most out of growing up in such a fine city. I only lived there for a year. My grandparents were there until 1976. We practically spent all our weekends there as kids. Great days! Great people! Thanks for the yearbook pictures of my Mom and Aunt. They were pretty fine back then! Oh, and I would love to feast my eyes Walter Holts' CD collection some day! That's what I read anyway.
~God bless and thanks again John Baker. God bless to Cougars everywhere~
Doug "a wannabe Coug" GGHS 1980
PS I lost the information about long time educator John McCarthy.

Thanks Doug but we're not going anywhere just yet. Thanks too for being out there. You are not alone as there are numerous people from the South Bay that look in on Cougartown. Stick around for a while and see how this turns out. As to REALcougartown, Sloey, what do you think??

Message: Yes…I would echo Mr. Leary, visiting Realcougertown.com is a sight for sore eyes or at least it will leave them sore.(mine still haven’t adjusted). Such vivid artwork only depicts the essence of those dayglo days of yore. ( I know they had to hide subliminal messages in there somewhere)Truly this site has been put together with much imagination (or maybe a few mushrooms). Why, I had to go an throw Ina Gada Da Vida on the ole CD after that trip. An where ever did they find those cool bikers. They're right out of Altamont. Man, I would pay that $95.00 but I too, am afraid of getting flash backs. Peace, Love An Long Live Rock n Roll. Another “proud to be a member of cougartown” ( me thinks missing” Cruise Night” affected ‘Sniffles” waaay tooo much or maybe it was getting his picture with Al )
I'm not too sure if "sniffles" can make it on Friday. That's game night and someone in his family has got to be playing a game somewhere.

We have made such a great deal with Gates and Geffen [I let Robin deal with him, a little light in the loafers] we are tearing down that stuff at 136th and rebuilding the A&W, it will be ready Friday night. Although I would like to invite everyone, King Robin says members only. Free food and Root Beer.My dear "old" friend Al Jardine, Jan and Dean, Dick Dale all the old Gremmies, [sorry no hodads], and REALCOUGARTOWN.com will be giving away a '57 Vette [again members only eligible], so be there or be square!!! Members only huh. Sounds like Jardine, Dick Dale, Jan and Dean and a few others will be performing for you and Robin. I'll try to make it Jimmy, but I might have something else to do, but if I can I'll be there but probably not, then again......

Message: John:
I finally sold that IPO stock I purchased two weeks ago in RealCougarTown.com. Well, actually, I went to Pink's this weekend and traded several shares for three of their "special RealCougarTown" Hot Dogs. By the time I got through with the second dog my heartburn was so bad one of the owners called the Paramedics after standing down wind from my breath. At the Hospital when I told them what I ate they pumped my stomach with a fire hose and filled in the scar tissue with cement. Whew, am I glad that's over. If anyone wants the remaining stock certificates for RealCougartown.com they are available along with additional certificates to trade for those special Pink's Hot Dogs. If I don't have any takers by Friday, I may donate them to the re-elect Clinton campaign which is picking up steam outside of Indio California.
Alan

Thanks Alan, Actually I might take those Pinks certificates. You know, cast iron stomach and all.

Message: I echo May 1st's letters from Cougs Campbell, Holt, and Hood, to say the least! Who needs cute graphics? All of us early 60'sers ACTUALLY learned to read. Mr. Baker has acted completely in the spirit of those innocent times. 90's avarice and narcissism can never replace integrity. I discovered this site only a few weeks ago, and it already has enriched my life tremendously. I spoke at Seymore Ziff's funeral, and had a class with Bill Goodfellow. Those gentlemen had integrity, as does John. Let's reward John (and ourselves) by keeping this site open. Let us all know what we have got to do, John.

Linda Reynold's, I read your feedback about the firetruck and wanted to let you know there is a place nearby my house in Orange county that buys, sells and restores old fire trucks. I will drive by this weekend and get the name for you and e mail you. John did you ever find out who Yamma and Ramma were? Yesterday on the way home from work I the parking lot known as the 405 S I spotted a Grand Cherokee with a license plate of "1 Yamma 1". I tried to get up next to it but I couldn't maneuver too easily in all that traffic. Just a reminder all you people from the class of 81 don't forget to get your tickets for the 20 year reunion. Message: Hello fellow Cougars & John Baker, Our King. Well John I'm very happy to see Cougartown growing so fast but on the other hand I’m so sorry to learn that you will need to shut it down sometime soon. As they say all good things come to an end. WOW Are You Kidding?
Well fellow Cougars, I would personally go "Bananas" if it wasn't for Cougartown as I travel around the world and I know when I get back to my hotel room I can really go home even though I might be in China, Thailand or god only knows where.
As a lot of you know I work in the International Trading Business, buying and selling, living out of a suitcase weeks on end. That's the bad news.... the good news is it pays the bills.
Here's my point. I know there are a lot of us that don't contribute storys everyday or every month but I'll bet there are a lot of you out there that log onto CT when you get to your hotel room in the evening or you go to the business center of the hotel and check-in to CT. Hey in Mission Viejo we have a carwash that has two computers setup so that you can check out what is going on in the world.
WE'RE GOING TO LOSE COUGARTOWN IF WE DON'T DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
John started CT as a hobby and now it's grown into a full time job! John needs to hire a hosting service that can handle our fast growing website. John also needs to hire a programmer to automate all the stuff he does by hand right now, ie. email list, new arrivals, email changes, etc. Hey this will cost $75.00 per hr. and it shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks to get this done. What has taken place here is we have a wonderful hobby/pastime that is now costing John a lot of extra time and money.
I would like to call on some of the seniors out there that have run a business that would like to do some brainstorming and help John out, and come up with a way to not just throw money at this, as a short time project/fix but come up with a long term fix.
Here are couple ideas that I have come up with: 1. Long term fix…Take the feed back pages and turn them into a screenplay/book {I'm sure it would be a best seller}. All the money would go back into running the website. Any writers out there? This would take sometime but it would be a lot of fun. 2. Short term fix; have a two-week fund raiser (Webathon). John thinks we'd need to raise around $12,000.00 this would take care of the website for a year. 3. Long term fix; Member only website at $30.00 per year per person.
John has brought us all together in his little playhouse and we all love it... Now it's time to step up to the plate and help out our King John. Please pass along you're comments...Thanks for listening.

Thanks Dennis for your thoughts. This website has been great fun. I want to continue it, but to be quite honest, it's eating into my work time and play time not to mention my wallet. As the site grows, so does the amount of time it takes me to complete all the tasks connected with it. Then too, as the site grows, frankly so does the financial burden. We could use a programmer to automate the nuts and bolts part of the website.
I'd like for every class to have their own section on the website, and be run by that class. We need more bandwidth, etc. Anyway, bottom line, we're growing and need to step it up a notch or two. Thanks Cougs.....
