Message: Okay all you Cougars. I need your help if you ever played baseball for Aviation Little League. I'm on the board this year and we're looking for any memorabilia or memories you oldtimers may have. We would like to know if any all-star teams won any district championships and if so where the banners might be. Last year we celebrated the 40th anniversary. The major and minor fields were named in honor of the Laidlaws and Trotters. Any one care to help?
Sounds like a fun project Cougs. Can any of you Westsiders help Greg?

Message: Well John boy.. It's time that we start focusing on our 70's & 80's alumni for August 18th's PROM NITE.. Since I don't hardly remember the 70's myself, (long story) I'll pull a great song out of a hat and let you hyperlink it for me... How about "YMCA" by the Village People.---or "The Last Dance" by Donna Summer... (your pic Sid) OK you whipper snappers.. get out there and show us how to do it!!!! We 60's people may have to get a lighted dance floor and the mirrored ball for this one.
Last note: I've opened up more rooms at the Marriott Manhattan Bch, so that all of you staying can get the cheapest rate per night.. about $115.00 a day. Now it's up to you.
Judy Wudy...sitting by the mail box.

The 70's was......well kind of a slow decade for music wasn't it? I mean there was Barry White, The Hues Corporation, and Gordon Lightfoot. Then there was Marvin Hamlisch, Roberta Flack, Debbie Boone, and Starland Vocal Band. Tough Picks on Music there boy. I'd let Dan Johnson pick, but we all know who he'd choose. Hey how about CW McCall and "Convoy"......NAW, I know, Olivia Newton John or Morris Albert and "Feelings"...........
Let's let a 70's person pick one. Anyone from the 70's, shout out a 70's song.

Message: I remember The year was 1968 Reggie Powell and I were cruising with my friend in his 63 Tempest southbound on Lincoln Hwy at Manchester Blvd in Westchester, when this old 58? mint green well worn Pontiac sits along side at the light. The light turns green and we're off we were well aware of what the T Pot was capable of (14.50s) even though the clutch was in the front and the tranny in the rear. It was going to be a go anyway. Well we later learned that the old Poncho had the J-2 option, (3 deuces), and a hydro. Poor choice for us that night. We were losing ground and(to add insult to injury) the Sheriff's Officers were coming in the opposite direction, and chose us being the slower of the two. The driver/owner slowed to the shoulder till we realized that there was no place for them to cross the median. We slowed and they began to back up, all the while with the lights flashing. So the break was on (the owner drove that poor Tempest faster than it had ever gone at Lions, there were sparks coming from the dual exhaust. We took the very first left turn and hid on a sidestreet, and hunkered down in the car, to let the moment pass, when the street was suddenly blocked off at either end, by the police. We were toast, we thought. Much to our relief the fire department showed up. we had inadvertantly parked in front of a house that was on fire and had arrived before the fire department. After things had quieted down we daintily drove down the street, being quided over the firehoses by, yes, the police. And I complain about what my kid does, go figure.
Always a Coug /Blake

Good one Blake......

Hey Roni, Glad you're back. Haven't heard anything about a class of 76 - 25 year reunion, but I'm sure there are going to be a few 76ers at Prom Night 2001. Sharon Bierman and Shawna Hatcher have already signed in and I'm sure there'll be more as time gets close. We need more 70's and 80's people there and once a few sign up, the rest will follow suit. Message: The Mr. Goodwrench Chevy and it's assigned #3 are the property of Richard Childress, who owned Dale's car and team, and is licensed through him for the remainder of the 2001 season. It remains to be seen what will become of the Black #3. The racing world lost a legend last Sunday. The man who bridged the gap between the "Good Ole Boys" moonshine-running racers, and the athletes that are in the sport now. I've seen the Intimidator run many times at Phoenix and twice at Vegas. I have stood in awe of his talent, drive and determination to win. There are some who may feel that NASCAR and HHS don't have much in common, but growing up in Southern California was all about racing cars. Whether the hot 1/4 mile of Lions or OC Raceway, the twisting turns of Riverside, the wide banks of Ontario Motor Speedway, the dirt oval at Ascot, or impromptu drags on Hawthorne Blvd. and Hermosa Ave, we all have a little racer in us, and respect those who are masters of the sport. God Bless Dale Earnhardt and the Earnhardt Family. May the Checkered flag wave for you always.

Message: As is often the case, the most interesting characters in our lives do not always put themselves in a highly visible position. They are the people quietly pulling down their 'A's in honors classes, performing miracles with wood and metal in the shop classes, or just being quietly quirky in the background. The class of '74 had it's odd cartoonist, taking his lunch by the shop buildings with his close friends every day to stay out of the social spotlight, or the occasional lock picker, so adept at manipulating the Master combination locks used on our lockers that once he was finally apprehended for switching lockers locks and contents, the Master Lock Company sent a technician out to ask, "How are you doing this?" But of all the strange, the mysterious and the fascinating individuals in the Class of '74, the character that stands out in my memory is one who was known to us throughout our senior year only as "The Green Phantom". This was not someone who could be satisfied with watching his friends get sick on cheap wine or playing slap and tickle with female classmates. This person not only managed to break into various locked buildings on the HHS campus in the dead of night without damaging door, lock or window, they managed to make tiny green footprints appear, looking as if they walked up 20 ft walls and across the ceiling. I could demand that this specter come forward and tell us the full story. I could point you towards the e-mail list for the Class of '74 to look for the Coug with the audacity to use the address "green-phantom". Instead I will just appeal to the generosity, and I suspect, the well hidden sense of showmanship, that brought us these stunts some 27 years ago. Step forward Green Phantom, and share all!

It seems to me that there was one other driver killed in the number 3 car Neil Bonnett. I could be wrong but if jr. takes the # 3 It is possible that it well go to DEI and used on the bud car. Who knows.

Message: So, you want stories? I have hundreds, because, unfortunately, I am nearly autistic in memory, regardless of how many brain cells I drown in Bombay Sapphire in any particular evening. Here's but one:
One of my best friends from high school (let's just call him "Michael D" '75) became president of that fabled service organization, the Knights. "Michael" was always destined to be a superlative businessman. Even in high school, no bake sales with Sees suckers for "Michael". We all loved movies at the time. Instead of a bake sale, and under "Michael's" direction, three of us, Michael and the Feen and I, took a bus to Hollywood soon after "Michael's" ascendancy to the presidency of the Knights (we couldn't even drive yet), and we bargained with a guy at a movie paraphenalia store named (I kid you not) "Tiny", who said he could get us a print of American Graffiti, a movie that was just barely out of current release, for a day. But we had to sign a contract, even with the Devil and his surrogate Tiny, that we wouldn't run the print more than once in a 24 hour period. Well, somehow, I think by accident, and with nobody at all at fault, we ran it three times, and somehow we publicized the hell out of all three screenings, in different places--even the Daily Breeze picked it up. If you looked at the Class of '68 sign, it said only one time at a time, then it would change the time the next day, then the next day...anyway, somehow the movie was screened three times, and we made $5,000--those are $5,000 1973 dollars--enough that we had more money than even student council. At the end of the year, we were able to "sell" our Knights sweaters back to the club for $50 apiece, even though we had bought them for $15 apiece. Oh, and we had a nice three day retreat in Arrowhead--a planning meeting where we did not much more than "plan" how to spend all the money. Tiny must have died 20 years ago, though later he did sell me a one-sheet to Last Tango in Paris at a very favorable price. It was in "Michael's" blood, as he has, since college, worked exclusively at the major studios, one of which you might know by its mouse, and is now at a new studio. I sure hope the statute has run on all this, and that Tiny's progeny don't read the site.

Well "Pass the Buttah" if that wasn't HHS entreprenuership at it's best.......or was it jail time waiting to happen. It's funny what you'll do when your in high school. You can always fall back on "HEY, I didn't know".
And to Michael....did you change your last name to Eisner? Thanks joseph

Message: I have heard that there may be some contractual things that may keep Dale Jr. from taking over #3. Waltrip and Dale Jr. drive for DEI, but the #3 car belongs to Childress Racing. In this area, many feel that due to the impact that Dale Earnhardt had on NASCAR, they should retire his number. While I am a Rusty Wallace fan, Dale Sr. always knew how to get things stirred up and made for some exciting racing. It will be interesting to see what happens to the famous #3. Also for you older baseball fans, Eddie Matthews passed away yesterday. He will be remembered for his hitting prowess and for the fact that he is the only player to play for the Braves in all 3 cities (Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta).
