Message: Re: The fine blue print on the Las Vegas reunion: If you're that old, what difference does it make what the deadline means, you'll forget it anyway. I think that we will have to start estimating crowd size by Sun 2/28, with an exact date, so deadline for picking dates is Sunday, cutoff for participation will be when we reach the max of our estimated size. (We do have to fund this you know). Now, does anyone understand any of this? I think I forgot what the question was, Sr. Panadero. Who am I? Where am I? ohoh. That's all for now.
Note: Yep......Now you know why they call her "Dah Brains". :o)

I know he's not surfing, because you can't surf in a wheel chair. He's old, if you know what I mean. He must be at least a whole year older than I am. And I work for a major pop co. and I started delivering pop on a covered wagon, so jeez hes got to be old.
Hey John, how about PEZ DISPENSERS. Always cool when you were bored.

Message: Gosh I love coordinating Cougars again...NOT! :>) Frank Romano has really taken the reins on logistics in Las Vegas - Thanks Frank!!! (Please note the non-use of any nickname here).

Ok here are the answers to frequently asked questions:
1. I'm V5 not V6 not V7...etc
2. No, I did not stuff the ballot box on the Las Vegas weekend date with my preferred dates.
3. No, I will not stuff the box with your preferred dates.
4. My email address has a 2 instead of a 5 because I didn't foresee the correlation prior to Cougartown.
5. No, I will not change my email address to PValencia5.
6. The deadline for sign-ups will be this Sunday, 2/28.
That's all for now

Note: Patty, Do you mean the deadline for "sign ups" is this Sunday? or the deadline "to voice your opinion on what weekend we should have this party" is this Sunday? Now see how easy it is to confuse us older Cougs. :o)

Message: IT IS BECOMING VERY CLEAR TO ME NOW WHY I AM RECEIVING SO MANY WONDERFUL EMAIL MESSAGES FROM MY FORMER WISEBURN DISTRICT INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC STUDENTS. THANK YOU, AMANDA, FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN!
AFTER 29 YEARS OF TEACHING MUSIC I RETIRED IN 1991 WHEN THEY DROPPED MY PROGRAM. I WAS OFFERED A CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENT BUT ONE "CUSTER'S LAST STAND" WAS ENOUGH.
I REALLY LOVED THAT JOB AND I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET THERE EACH MORNING. SPENDING MY TIME WITH ALL OF YOU TALENTED YOUNG PEOPLE WAS AN EXPERIENCE THAT I WILL FOREVER CHERISH.
WATCHING THESE YOUNG MUSICIANS CONTINUE THEIR MUSIC ADVENTURES WITH MR. MORGAN AND ALEX DELEO WAS ESPECIALLY REWARDING.
AS AMANDA REPORTED, I HAVE DEVELOPED MY WESTERN AMERICANA BOOK PUBLISHING BUSINESS INTO WHAT HAS TURNED INTO A REAL JOB...BUT IT STILL LEAVES TIME FOR ME TO PLAY 250 SOFTBALL GAMES A YEAR IN SENIOR SOFTBALL LEAGUES THAT TAKE ME ALL OVER THE US FOR TOURNAMENTS.
YES! I STILL PLAY THE TRUMPET ON OCCASION BUT REALLY SHOULD PRACTICE MORE.
I STILL HAVE ALL 29 OF MY CLASS ROLL BOOKS AND FIND MYSELF PAGING THROUGH THE LISTS OF EXCLUSIVE AND TALENTED INDIVIDUALS WITH SUCH PLEASANT MEMORIES OF GOOD TIMES GONE BY. IF YOU HAVE THE TIME OR THE INCLINATION, DEAR FRIENDS, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR OF YOUR OWN ADVENTURES @ richardupton@worldnet.att.net

I found this web site and can't believe all the information you have out there. I scanned through the e-mail address and saw so many familiar names. The memories, the faces, it's amazing. I hope to hear from you to catch up on the past 25 years. I missed the 20 year reunion. I didn't get any information on it and was on a trip with my children and mother. Apparently my husband saw something in the newspaper and new I wouldn't be able to get home in time for it. Sorry I missed it. Hope to be able to hook up for the next one.

Message: Yikes! I didn't mean to imply that my high school years were a bummer, I had a good time at HHS and have some very good memory's, I just can't remember much :) Amanda, thanks for the turn on to Mr. Upton's web site. I dropped him a line today. I seem to remember that he was related to General Custer, which is how Mr. Upton became so interested in such a tragic character. Betty, what fun to hear about Diane's 4th child! We're expecting grandson number two in about four weeks. My youngest just turned 18 in January, I'm looking forward to his graduation from High School this June. Susan, I spent 18 years in the scouting program, with one son going from tiger cubs to eagle scout. Feel free to email me if you would like some ideas.

Message: Just read something on here about Mr. Upton and General Custer. First I went to Dana. I had Mr. Upton. I remember him being rather thin and a pointy nose. He knew how to play every instrument made. I remember he got mad at me because I would play the bass (the huge violin looking thing) so hard that I would break my bow which was made of horse hair. I must have caused allot of baldness at the stables on Rosecrans. My mom and dad woundn't let me play the drums because they were to loud. And, about Custer, our family doctor was Castleberry Custer he was a direct decendant of General Custer. All I remember is that his office was filled with memorabilia from Custer and the Old West. I should be there in Vegas on the 17 of March. Getting busy gotta go.

Maybe a get together at the Mall of America in Minneapolis would be fun. Message: I just love checking back in to this site to read all the feedback updates...what a trip down memory lane. It is really funny reading about places I thought I only identified by nic-names, like "The Big T" for the Thriftymart on El Segundo. We always called it that, even before I started grade school.
For all HHS alumni who learned to play a musical instrument during their elementary/jr. high years in the district before 1991 - Richard Upton is retired, still living in El Segundo and runs a book publishing co./webstore for books and articles on General Custer (remember his own book "Fort Custer on the Big Horn"?). He and his son are running the company and apparently he has become quite the authority on the American West and anything about the subject, because researchers contact him for assistance with regards to their own books and for motion pictures. Take a moment to check out his website and send him an e-mail to say "hello"....what a great teacher he was. FYI - he recalls the period of the mid-70's as "the Golden Years" when he taught because there were so many talented students who came out of the music ed program and went on to continue music. Make his day...send him an e-mail.

Message: John - an idea for you. If the others are willing, I thought it would be nice to add a listing on the alumni list for where people are located. It would help out, say if you moved to Victorville, or like me, wondering if there are any other Cougs up here in the frozen north that would be up for a mini reunion but can't make it to LV. So, what do you think?
Note: Jay, That's one of the things that's in the works for 1999 Cougartown. I would like to automate this project as people move and need to be able to update their own personal info. Cougartown is growing daily, and the time has come to automate. In the meantime, if you want to have a reunion in your area of the country, let me know and I'll put a "Sign Up" board on the site. That's what we're here for, to get everyone together again.
Thanks Jay, and let me know.

Message: A wonderful thing happened yesterday. You see V2 or 5 or whatever her number is in that litter gave me an intense counseling session so perhaps I have the courage to move on with my problem. In 1946 upon coming home from China and being released from the Marine Corps it was time to decide on a future life. Had a rewarding time helping young and scared recruits learn skills, gain confidence, and pride in themselves so decided to try and become a teacher. Started at Leuzinger in 1948 and spent half my life trying to change children into responsible young women and men. Now I sit and brood about how could I have gone so wrong?? I mean- just look at some of the things you- oh God- I just cant face any more of it tonight.
AMEN J.L.

Let's see...... mess around or study...mess around or study...mess around or study......... I did manage to pull a C-. And the trip to Germany helped my German. Ein mehr grosse bier, bitte. Vo ist die toilette?
But some phrases from the conversation group did stick. Nein, in die worstkuche. or Rechts, und geradeaus. Funny the things you remember. Peggy and I have had some laughs about it, even though she graduated before I got there. The phrases were still the same. Peggy did the Germany trip twice, and she denies any responsiblilty for George Key's injuries. (Ein mehr grosse bier, bitte) pardon the spelling

How about during drivers ed
Red Asphalt
I also remember seeing some fun Monty Python movies there, as well as Young Frankenstein. What a crack up. Speaking of movies, how about Rocky Horror at the Hermosa cheap theaters by the surf shop where you could buy cool beach sandals. I remember Bill Snyder and Tony Frink and other OLD people doing the time warp in the back yard at Bill's house. Speaking of the beach, 26th was not cool with my crowd at Hawthorne, although the tradition did reign into the 80s. We hung out at El Porto, and roller SKATED to "2-6" to see who was there. Then we had to stop at El Tarasco's on the way home. MMMMMMmmmmm. Since my dear sisters frequent this site, I should leave out the fact that we spent time at the beach when I should have been in 7th period biology with Mr. Andrade. Hence, the only D I ever got in high school. Oh, well, when you're 5th in line in a family of stinkin' saints, somebody's gotta break the mold. It wasn't too hard, since I was a spaz at volleyball, so opted for co-ed track and cross country instead. By the way, we fielded the first real girls track team at Hawthorne, and they went on in later years to win some serious titles. I'll take credit for that. Sorry, Coach Courtney.
By the way, there were still some green footprints around when I went to dear old HHS. Guess they couldn't afford to paint. tsk tsk
