Message: Now we can get back on the subject of local bars. On the southwest corner of 138th street and Inglewood Avenue stands a single building that once was a bar. This building has been boarded up since the mid 1960?s. I once saw the fins of Brother Bill?s coupe in the parking lot. Maybe he can shed some light on the subject.
Not entirely true. It was "The Joker" in the mid to late 70's as I knew the owners John and Ellie.

Message: Haven't really had much time to read CT but Petey said it was good so i gave her a read. It was nice to hear someone saying nice things about my ex- BeBop. Robert Duane Hegg. He is living, I believe, in Minnesota with the Amish. Now anyone that really knew Beep know this is quite a change. A very good change.
I'm certainly glad the holidays are over. Cone 9 had a terrific year, hope you all remember to drop in if you plan to visit the Pacific Northwest. I got a printer (or money for a printer) anyone have a suggestion as to what one to buy. Now I need a scanner to get some pics to Paco. I truly hope everyone has a grand 2001. Peace Kell

Epson or HP for either one, IF you've got a USB port. The HP5300C scanner is about 199.00 and works great. Stay away from the 90 dollar and under junk scanners and printers.

Message: Mr. Baker, in regards to your question about the derivation of the name "Pink Floyd" -- the story is as follows. Pink Floyd was founded by a gifted musical visionary named Syd Barrett. Like a lot of English teenagers in the mid-60s (like Mick Jagger, Eric Burden, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, etc.), Syd was a devotee of American blues. The name comes from combining the names of Georgia bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Syd claims that the name came to him in a vision during a dream. Syd led Pink Floyd to the release of its 1967 masterpiece "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios right down the hall from where the Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper. Anyway, as the making of Piper went along, Syd started to lose his mind to a combination of LSD and methadqualone to the point where he was kicked out of the band in early 1968. Of course, Syd remained the focal point of Roger Waters' writing -- Syd inspired such songs as Brain Damage ("the lunatic is in my head"), Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Nobody's Home from the Wall. If you've ever seen the movie The Wall, Bob Geldolf is in many places playing Syd and the members of Floyd tell of falling to pieces after seeing how realistic some of the portrayals were (e.g., the shaving scene where "Pink" cuts off his eyebrows and cuts open his face). Syd was a true genius and Piper is a classic of the period (although it was generally ignored in the US). David Bowie has said that once Syd left, there was no longer any Pink Floyd to his way of thinking. Anyway, Which One's Pink? will be playing a free show on 2/16/01 at the House of Blues on Sunset (free admission if you e-mail me) and we will be in Las Vegas on 3/24 at Pink E's. So, are you glad you asked that question?
Uh yeah, Uhhhhh......that's what I thought. Thanks Dan

Message: Absolute fun to read through the "mail." Was great to see David Moala play the other night. Hope he wasn't too embarrassed by the hotdogging of some of his teammates. For some of you "older" Cougs...Talked with Bill Cooper's (class of '54 I think) son the other night. Looks just like the old man. He's playing ball at Cal Poly SLO.
I'm currently at Redondo HS. I think there's 8 or 9 former Cougars on staff here now, not counting most of the security team. We're taking over the place. No wonder it's a pretty good school.
Mom and dad are now fulltime residents of Palm Springs. They're in good health and doing well....still "whuppin" people on the tennis court. Always get a call or an email from dad after a bowl game. He's either defensed the offense or figured a way to beat a defense. He could still out coach most of 'em.
Looking forward to the Prom Nite. Should be fun to see everyone.
Hope you all have a great 2001.
Dave
PS. - Haven't been to CT recently, so I don't know if anyone mentioned that Mike Wadman ('66) lost his youngest son (17) in late November. He was a terrific kid. I had him in class when I taught at HHS.

A real born and bred Cougar folks. From HHS batboy in the early 50's to grad in 66 to Teacher at HHS from 1981 to 99. I don't think there's another Coug that's put in more hours on campus and worn more caps than Dave has......not even the Ol' Coach himself.
Thanks Dave, for checking in and for signing up for Prom Night. Now if we could just get sister Jan to commit we'd have the whole HHS Chauncey family in attendance.

And of course I have been recuperating from that good old Rock Around the Block at the Block of Orange I attended New Years Eve. What a Blast it was watching all those young swing dancers boogying like we used to do. Ok so I'm gonna have to get at least a weeks sleep and take lots of vitamins before I try to boogy like that at PROM NIGHT. John B... if Florida State beats Oklahoma tonight shouldn't Washington have claim to a share of the National Title since they whooped Miami (bunch of cry babies, look at their schedule)...Also John as an ex Boy Scout you should be used to camping out in tents...sequined or otherwise..Remember the good ole Scout Oath...On my honor I will do my best to help the Girl Scouts Get undressed... I wish I may I wish I might be with a girl scout every night (Clean Version)..forever Cougars
Now that one I musta' missed while trying to make second class. Thanks Walter and I just wish Coach Neuheisels boys were playing Oklahoma tonight, then there would be no doubt.

Message: To Keith Jones from a fellow Pack/Troop 917 member:
Georgia Cook showed me this site and I think it's great to see what became of all the people I knew from Hollyglen. You remember Mr. Williams chasing Ralph Keskeys around. Ralph was drunk on the Jack Daniels that me, John Terheggen and his brother Dave stashed in the bushes behind wood shop the night before. John pulled a false fire alarm and we took off running down Aviation. Dave tossed the bottle in case we got caught we didn't want to have two charges against us. Ralph found the booze, drank it and got in a little trouble it seems. Keith, is your dad Casey still around? He was one of my favorite Little League coaches. My dad Tom passed away in 1992. Anyway, this site sure is fun. I never did really connect with Lawndale High, haven't been to any reunions or anything. But John Terheggen's family moved away to Sacramento after 8th grade, and he would have wanted to have stayed and gone to LHS like his brother. Well take care, and "hi" to all I went to grade school and jr. high with.

You probably don?t remember me but I sure remember you. I had such a crush on you but mother said ?no Schickses? and I always did what mother wanted. So I became a wallflower. But with the upcoming PROM I think I may have another chance. What do you think? Can you help me? What should I wear? Is my scarlet and gold Cougar yarmulke okay? The only dance I know is the Hora. What should I do? Please don?t tell my mother. She is living in Palm Beach and is busy with dimpled Chad, my sister's son.

Message: The holidays are over and all I can say is, "Thank God!!!" The tree is at the curb the boxes are packed and waiting their return to the garage and the leftover cookies, candies and stuffing are down the garbage disposal. I finally came up for air yesterday on a sunset walk on the beach. It was warm and because of the Santa Ana winds the smog was over the horizon making a colorful sky. I took off my shoes and walked on the cool, hard, wet sand and let the ocean soothe my tired feet. Now it's time to focus on 2001 and, yes, 'Prom Night'. So, FYI sister Linda has expressed interest in attending and since my Pole Princess is going with Lowrider Wayne I guess I'll have go with, of all people..........my sister? Oh well, she can still cut a rug and we both know all the words to "My Guy"..........Catch ya later....
There you go guys. Two beautiful Estrada sisters, and they have NO DATES!! This should be a dream situation for all you Stag Cougar guys out there. Actually it doesn't matter how you get there, as long as you go. We'll see you there Liz.....dated up or dateless.

Well Bunky, I don't know if it's politically correct to say who's dance card may be only half full at this point..but you'll know the stag gals right away..they're the ones shooting down wild turkey with a hair in it... (we've come a long way baby) And now to Ineeda Date: I don't mind that you say I've been around the block once or twice.. because ..in fact, I own property on that block. Now here's my words of wisdon as to what you can expect if you show up at PROM NITE alone... perhaps~~~Find the girl of your dreams..or an old flame for the dance that you've always wanted to dance.. Perhaps you'll meet a little chickadee and make a new love..dance cheek to cheek all night to the tunes from the good ol' days or...if all else fails "having sex alone, saves on cologne".. (can't help it John, I was stumped for a closing line) Anyway.. go to your PROM NITE list..and keep in mind that we're getting a lot of new sales from out of state.. Tickets are still on sale and will be for a while..but when they're gone, they're gone.. Now, back to that tin of cookies that Janny's ex-wife just sent me.. something called "potato chip macadamia nut" there goes the diet.. I think this is a conspiracy..
Tilly Noodleman.. on a quest.

Yep, the way to an ex-husbands heart is through his present wife's stomach. Thanks Judy for those pearls of wisdom.

Message: Ellen, thanks for more Yeakel history. I knew it was one of the Yeakel nephews who died in El Segundo due to an auto accident. However, I didn't remember which nephew or his name. What I do recall is that Steve was either racing or exceeding the speed limit in his 409 Chevy and the police were chasing him north on Main Street. In the 60's, Main Street turned into Pershing Drive at Imperial and made a sharp 90-degree turn to the left and then back to the right. The police estimated that he crossed Imperial at 100MPH plus. Unfortunately, he didn't have a chance..............I have heard a lot about El Segundo Police and would never race in that town. Oh sure! Well, I never received a ticket from an El Segundo peace officer and was only stopped once. Well I guess that's not totally true since I was parked. "But Officer, we were only watching the rabbit races." Oh, that's another story......Cougars, drive as fast as it is safe and only park in secure places.
