Message: I just received my Alumni book and found that sections G, H, I,& J were missing from the bio section. Has anyone else noticed it in their books or is it just mine? Paid good money for this and they did a poor job on the book I received. I thought this was going to be good, the same company did the book for my son's high school and their's turn out great. If anyone elses book turn out the same way, please e-mail the company and complain. Maybe we can get them to redue it or refund some money to us. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my Cougartown town family. Pauline
Pauline, The book that I have has all the sections you mentioned. I'm sure there's no need to complain as it sounds like an honest mistake in bindery. Just ask them to replace your book.

Message: What a beautiful morning! The sky is clear and the mountains look close enough to touch. I am thankful for so many blessings in my life. And I'm letting all of you know, that all of you are just one of them. Simply having this connection to tune in to each day, gives me warm happy feelings. Each time I see a new name (even though they're hardly ever names I recognize) I know that our circle is widening - drawing in more old friends and acquaintances.
Rather than be overwhelmed by all the "things that have to get done by Christmas" let's take time to thank God for the wonderful gifts we already have - wonderful memories, the love of old friends, and the common bond of Cougartown. Thank you John, for making it happen.

Thanks Ingrid, Well said. We ARE truly blessed by all the found Cougs and the love that's felt on this website. When I meet someone face to face for the first time, it's like I've known them for years. Like it or not Cougs, we are all related, and for that I feel blessed. So borrowing from Royal Lord HHS61, "Thank God I'm a Cougar" and thank God for Cougartowners.

How about a speaker switch for that little number? Remember the ones you bought at Wynns Bros in Hawthorne. It said FRONT-REAR-BOTH

Message: John, I think that all us snowbound Cougars can take vicarious pleasure in your photo (the snow globe was a nice touch). Milwaukee (the closest big city) has 22 inches on the ground and up to 8 inches are predicted for today. This past Saturday, the temperature warmed up to 32 degrees so we took the truck to the car wash! I have tucked my little gas-saving Cavalier in for the Winter and have taken the wheel of my 4-wheel drive GMC for the duration. After all, it's easier to find a black Z-71 with lighted visor & running boards in a snow drift than a silver Cavalier!
Hi Sharon, I don't have to worry about snowdrifts, but I can never find my car at the Del Amo Mall at Christmas time.

Message: Wow, you wouldn't believed what happend here in the weather pattern of Portland, OR. First, we had all this cold and maybe an inch of snow(Portland is 300ft. about sea level). Then, it got just a bit warmer to produce that Godaweful rain and what do you get during the nights??? Ice and Black Ice(for your driving pleasure if you know what I mean). I personally didn't have to work in those few very bad days since everyone was getting into a wrecks in one form or another but I bet 75% were Ex-Californian drivers. One story tells of an accident on the Bridge (over the Columbia River) where the driver got out and another car was crashing towards him and he jumped over the railing to avoid being hurt but guess what? He fell about 100 ft into the COLD ICY river. Found out the guy was not only rescued but was a SAN DIEGO RESIDENT. Now, the summer air(as one weatherman puts it)says it'll warm up and it did. We went from 28' to 52' in just a matter of a few days. Thank you whoever in CA that was responsible for that and keeping us warm again.

Message: Damn. A couple of years after I graduated, I went down to San Clemente to visit six-pack Mac, Mike McClain. He had a great apartment just south of the pier and overlooking it. I got there, and the door was open, and he was listening to a Tom Waits album--that was the first time I ever heard Tom Waits, and I've been listening to him for almost 25 years now. He was filled with enthusiasm to see me even though I just showed up, as he had always requested me to. He was even more happy to learn, for some reason, that I had hitchhiked down. We went straight into Dana Point and this old bar (the Pelican) and never mind the fact that we were both underage. Dana Point then was nothing like it is now, it was just beginning to get condo creep, but it was still a seaworthy sailors town. Then we met up with a friend of his and he pointed to one of them and said "Party at John's tonight." This was news to John. Mike went to the payphone to make a few phone calls. Within minutes, there were about fifty people at John's.
But the funny thing was, Mike himself didn't stay too long. We met a couple of girls at the party and went out to eat with them at the Harbor House. This also happened so fast that by now I knew I shouldn't try to execute any kind of control over things myself, I should just ride along. Seemingly within one hour, Mike had grabbed me, had a few drinks at one place, started a party at another, left it, and was on to dinner with enchanting strangers. Don't want to get into the evening after that but I am telling you that if he had even a few more evenings like that in his life, he lived a complete and satisfying one. I went down a couple more times that summer--how could I not? It was sure better than anything I was doing. To hang with Mike right after high school was to put yourself on the perimeter of a thunderstorm.
When I think of people who have taught me how to live--how actually to connect, commune, and converse with people in social situations--Mike McClain is near the very top of that list, and remains so even today. To be around him, for me, was like being around someone like Ernest Hemingway, you never knew where it was going to go next, you just hopped on board for a while and let him take you along.

Great stuff joseph. Thanks for a morsel from the Saga of Big Mac. The way you tell the story, it's like it happened last weekend. His life must've been filled with similar adventures and I'd love to have the rights to the book. Anyone else have a Big Mac anecdote?
