Hello fellow Cougars...Have some sad news to report. We lost a fellow Cougar on Monday July 31st. Her name is Christine Granath and she graduated in the class of 77. I personally didn't know her that well, but I have lived next door to her brother Rick Granath for 14 years. Her death was very sudden and unexpected she was just 41 years old. I just thought I would share this information with everyone as I'm sure there are fellow classmates and friends out there who are not aware of her passing. Chris had just moved back to So Cal from Medford, OR a few months ago so I don't know if she had been able to contact any of you. As of this writing I'm not sure of the actual cause, but if anyone would like to email me at the address above please feel free to do so. I will be attending the funeral tomorrow, Thursday. Okay everyone, just wanted to let you know. Take care and say a little prayer for Chris and her family members. Thanks for being here.
We'll do that Carolyn. It's always sad to lose a fellow classmate or faculty member. Thank you for the information.

Message: ALAN HAUGE.. talk about making the "connection mistake" Here's my faux pas. Last year (before the first Fosters Cruise night) The ROWDYS were emailing Jim Sloey everyday.. but had never met him. He had "a secret" that I just had to know..and since I work for and ice cream company, I emailed him and told him I'd fork over a 5 qt pail of his favorite if he'd devulge "that secret" which he did.. The next day a nice looking fella walked into my office and said, "Are you Judy?" so thinking it was Sloey.. I got up from my desk..threw my arms around him, kissed him hard, and said, "IS THAT YOU SLOEY?" The stranger said, "no, I'm your Las Vegas Distributor." (BTW..we got the account and I have comp tickets to dinner in that town)
Good to see you Sat. Alan.. I haven't stimulated my pancreas since you talked to me.. honest.. (I heard that John) ZELMA PINO..SHARON MOORE..PAULINE MATTHEWS.. Chris Hood, I know what you mean about being the youngest of a well known Hawthorne family clan. My older siblings Mary (72) and Mike (74) had made a big name at HHS for me by the time I got there. We just lived across the street from HHS on El Segundo. In fact, HHS' address was 4859 W. El Segundo Blvd. Ours was 4858 W.El Segundo Blvd. It was a white apartment complex, in apt. A was the Photos family, Nikki (72, I think), Pete (75 or 76) and Marcia (right after Pete). We were in apt. B, Fred Austin (75 or 76) was in apt.C. Apt. D was two older bachelors. It was party central in that apt. complex, let me tell ya! The stories I could tell would not be suitable even for Cougartown!
But, Mike's insane wit ( Mike is kind of like a John Belushi character, more so then), was not just reserved to torture me and Mary as well as my mom, oh no! Poor Pete Photos! Any time that poor guy would bring a girl over and go up to his room with her, Mike would go upstairs ( our upstairs bathroom was next door to Pete's bedroom), and proceed to taunt and torment Pete and the woman of the moment! Wild stuff like acting like he was taking a dump and pounding on the wall with all kinds of groans and stuff and then, after doing this for about 3 minutes, finally flushing the toilet! Or, yelling out a wild phrase from the movie "Black Christmas" which was "BILLY, WHERE'S THE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!" or making all kinds of wild noises as if 2 people were doing it, except REALLY LOUD!!!!!!!
We all thought it was just awful that he did this to Pete, but it was so damned funny at the time and we all were in a state of severe "attitude adjustment" at the times he'd do this stuff....we'd all be laughing so hard, sometimes we'd be crying! I tell ya, it's amazing Pete kept trying! He knew what was going to happen if he had a chick over and Mike was home! Poor guy!
So Pete Photos, if you are out there or if anyone knows of his whereabouts, hey, I hope you didn't have to go through years of therapy because of my funny but insane brother Mikie! You weren't the only one who had to put up with his insanity. I hope you were able to marry and have kids and not had to worry about a psycho neighbor to taunt you while you dated in later life! If so, and you had halacious therapy bills, I can let you know how to reach Mike so he can re-imburse you!

Message: SATURDAY NIGHT WAS A SUPER BLAST AND A HALF....REALLY. AND ALL OF YOU WHO KEEP PROMISING US WHO GO, THAT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY SHOW UP ARE MISSING A GREAT TIME.
After the first cruise, many months ago, I stopped by one warm sunny afternoon to have a burger for lunch. As I sat alone thinking back about the crowd from the first cruise it made me realize how empty it was without the CT crew from HHS. Especially John B. and all of the B's, C's, V's and Rowdys, (never have got that straight yet), who made it a very special place. And the never ending stories which I hadn't heard for decades like killing crabs with an ice pick when they try and run away from the ben gay...(gosh Judy, now I'll get in trouble like you always do with that prom dress comment), anyway, it was great fun. And a time to relive the days when friends were friends and the only drive by shootings were committed by a kid down the street with a squirt gun. Thank God he chose HHS for me when I was growing up. The time, the people and the place I wouldn't change for anything.
Oh yeah, and recently I was in Las Vegas waiting for a flight back to LA when I thought I had enough time to look up Frank Romano. (Frank will enjoy this story). Anyway, I went up to the car rental counter and demanded to speak with Frank Romano and acted as if I was there to complain about a car rental. The guy said Frank was out to lunch, to which I said, "he always has been." A few minutes passed as he made several calls while searching for Frank. Finally he handed me the phone saying he got him out of an important meeting. I took the phone, (and still being a wise guy), I said, so what the hell took you so long? The Frank on the phone says "who is this?" To which I replied, "who is this?" He said "Frank Omano"....from "Thrifty rent-a-car" After hanging up the phone and slithering away from the counter it dawned on me Frank works for US Rent-A-Car, not Thrifty. Not a story I wanted to tell face to face with other Cougs.
See ya next time,
Alan
GREAT STORY ALAN!!! Im'a rolling on the floor here man. Great seeing you on Saturday too and glad you're back in Ctown.
I agree that we were all very lucky growing up in Hawthorne in the days of innocence. At the time we didn't realize how lucky we were. Thanks for making my morning Alan.

It wasn't uncommon to hear her on the front porch Yelling Ruuuun Hoody Ruuuun. Fastest kid on 133 St. Knew every tree top, roof top, crawl space, and the top of every open garage door within three blocks. I learned early, if you can't handle the heat your _ _ _ _ _ _. The monkey bump on the top of my head is permanent, but the experence of growing up (as some of us refuse to do) in Southern Cal during the 60's is one we are all fortunate to have experenced. Climbing into George McCord's window (because I wasn't supposed to be at his house) and listening -- with appropriate mental adjustments -- to the Outlaws "Green Grass and High Tides" (What's sad about this is that my first wife -- we're now divorced -- Rolling Hills, class of 86 -- HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD THE SONG until it came on KLOS one day on the radio) I mean, Green Grass & High Tides was up there with Stairway to Heaven and Free Bird as the anthems of the mid-70s. I guess video did kill the radio star.

I had three FREE tickets and I couldn't get anyone to go with me when they heard Tony Bennett. I couldn't believe it! The show was amazing! I'm not sure how old Tony is but he can sing a note longer than anyone I've ever heard! Diana was wonderful...how does she sing and play the piano turned toward the audience with her legs crossed??? What a voice. Next time I'll meet you there. I ended up giving the extra ticket back to the friend who gave them to me and she sold them to people in the bus line, which was lucky for them...the show was sold out. Randy said he was glad to have seen Tony once in his life, guess that means he won't go again. I'll work on Randy for the next cruise night. Hope to get there soon.
Hey Dawn, Tony just turned 74 on August 3 and can still sing like he was 30. Diana Krall has been tickling the ivorys since she was 4 years old, so she can probably play that thing standing on her head.

Anyone out there who remembers Randy Moffett, class of 73, maybe you could look him up and send him an email. If we can get him excited to go I'll get to go. Last Sat. Night I drug him to the Hollywood Bowl to see Diana Krall who opened for Tony Bennett. Randy did not have fun, I'm sure he would have rather been at cruise night! Maybe if he knew someone who was going to be there he'd get motivated. Driving to Palmdale daily from Simi doesn't make him want to drive on the weekends (we took the bus to the Bowl). I'm sure we'll get there someday! Hope you are all having a great summer! School's almost back in (yeah!) I might survive if the kids go back soon!

Well John, it took me a week and 4 and a half days, but I did it.....I read all of Cougartown feedback from page 1 until I found out about it and signed on on March 4th of this year. In a word.....WOW! What a slew of memories, information, jokes, sadnesses, etc. Better than reading most of the books that are out right now. We have so many wonderful, funny, eloquent, wild, crazy, humble, sensitive, giving people in here. What a great little community and bunch of people we as Cougs are. I feel very blessed and fortunate to be a part of this and to of grown up in a town and at a high school with as much integrity, spirit, great history and joy that Hawthorne High has! No one should ever take that for granted. I feel like I know so many of you already, even though most of you I have never met or talked to. I've laughed, cried, said Oh yeah, etc. to so many posts. I've even learned a lot I didn't know about classes before and after mine.
I love each and every one of you. You are all very special and unique individuals and I also would like to apologize to a few people for getting off on the wrong foot, a couple of these people we have already made our peace via private e-mails, but for the others....first of all, Kelley Currie...wonderful person, sorry our first time out was confrontational. Me, you and Petey need to party at the Pacific N.W. get together (I promise for the others out there, definite info. on that this weekend! Yea!), Dan Johnson, what a fun and neat person you are....Chris Hood, hey, ya smartass, all is forgiven, give me shit anytime you want, and for his big bro, Robin! You are a funny, crazy man! Hell, I love the Hoods, whether it's you guys or the other Hood's ( hey Randy, how's the tribute to Don Pike, coming, hon?)
