Message: My cousins went to Hawthorne Christian school but we lived in Inglewood so my sister and I attended Lockhaven Christian School on 104th. We didn't have to wear uniforms but white go go boots were the devils influence indeed. Also my tennis shoes with the Beatles pictures on them was so taboo that I was forced to wear black patten leather or the famous Red Goose shoes with a goose egg for a souvenir until Jr. High. I graduated Hawthorne with some of those kids from Lockhaven Christian but they're not here in CT yet. When we got in trouble back then the principal would get the belt called old Betsey. I never had the pleasure of meeting her. Anyway if anyone knows where David Engstrand or Connie Bartley are, turn them on to CT or have them email me. We all had Mrs. Hoy for kindergarden and lived to talk about it. Big Kell meet me in Eugene or come up to Salem. We'll go to the big city. Kell I remember that crush on Andy, I was in Oregon when Andy had that sandwich shop but Rob Smith sent me some cool shades to wear that came with his sandwich order and I still have them. Rob was expecting pickles? Andy had his own style for sure. See you soon Kell.

Message: Lori Padelford, much to my surprise Don (ill wait till the last minute) Dallons did call, and even took a day off to go to work with me. He actually spent the whole day on the set with me, it was great. We laughed and remember some of the stupid things we did as young criminals, as i saw in an earlier post by Susan Ciampa, when Don and i worked at Boys Market, after the annual football camping trip, we brought home thousands of live crickets only to turn them loose in the wilds of Boys shopping isles.....you were always back to nature as you could hear the lovely chirping when you walked down the produce and dairy sections. Life was sure simple then.....Take care Lori and all. Eddie

Message: Gary Swafford.... I was sorry to hear about your brother, yes I am behind on events. My heart goes out to you. Anyway, you most likely will not remember me, but my step-dad (Charlie Curnutt) rode with the Shamrocks M.C (desert) you and Troy were in the So.Cal. M.C and my parents were really good friends with Art and Goldie Knapp. One time I was wearing Charlie's Shamrock jersey during a dress up day at school. I was standing by the vending machines that were by the phys. ed. locker rooms my helmet under one arm, my hair back in a pony tail about as long as most of the guys back then. Either you or Troy came up behind me and recognizing the jersey, but not seeing my face, clapped me on the back and said "Hey hows it goin man?" When I turned around (either you or Troy) staggered back a step, all embarrassed, apologizing like I was gonna hit ya and said: "Oh man, I'm sorry, I thought you were a dude!" I was cracking up, cause you both were really quiet guys and even thought I'd seen you out in the desert and we both had dirt bike families we rarely spoke. Anyway, just wanted to share that with you, reminisce. By the way, I still have my mom's 1974 Husqvuarna 125. It still runs like a champ, the neighbors hate me, and the cops can't catch me! Heh heh! Take care.

Message: Hi Eddie Braun. How have you been for all these years? I would love to hear from you. Feel free to email me at the address above. Don't feel bad about Don "lets meet for lunch" Dallons he has an aka it's Don "how bout you and Mario and me and Karen get together for dinner" Dallons. Poor Don we shouldn't give him a hard time he is a really busy guy and one day we'll get to see him, maybe at Pink's on the 31st. Judy D. thanks for Andy's e mail I forwarded that to my brother. Joann Sexton do you remember me? My mom and your mom were friends, I think you went to a dance in high school with my brother Chuck. In fact I think I have a picture of it somewhere. Gina Black why can't I picture who you are? I went to St. Joes and HHS but can't place you. I was fortunate enough to have Miss Fox for 1st grade and she had been a neighbor of ours so she was really nice to me. In 2nd grade I had Sister Ann and remember her telling my mom I would never be able to write cursive if I didn't change the way I held the pencil. She would get so angry with me but I never changed and write just fine. Do you remember the janitor and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Rinaldi? Don DiTomasso, I understand you were at Pink's last time and so was I but we never met. If you go this time ask JB who I am and we'll finally get to meet. Why don't you bring the Padelford that you know so I can meet them? Marylin Ross...I noticed that you live in Garden Grove also and am curious if you are near me. I live right by Valley View and Lampson and if you know Robby and Linda Latta thewy live around the corner. Also If anyone is looking for someone and they have an idea of where they live I can run some names through the title companies I deal with and get an address. See you all @Pink's

Message: Judy DeGrazia, I didn't realize Tom and Andy were your brothers, I knew them also. I remember when Andy had the deli on Inglewood Ave. I had the biggest crush on him, and he just didn't care. We did a lot of partying on 133rd st. at Janet Porters. Yes that is the same 133rd st. I really don't remember Andy partying as much as watching us party. Just read the memories page, Pam Cleeton surfing, wow i had forgotten she surfed, there is a great picture of her in the 67 year book at the vending machines with her squaw boots on, remember squaw boots? I also remember taking a bus to the beach that went down Ocean Gate, you could even take your surfboard on. Did anyone else take that bus I was probably in 7th or 8th grade. Also took the bus to South Bay Shopping Center, now the Galleria or something like that. That is still the most windy place in the south bay. May Co. was the big store back then. Enough. One more thing does anyone know the whereabouts of Bob or Billy Gomen, Kenny McKinley '65 he had an older brother, they both played a mean game of football.

Message: John, I regards to your comment to Judy D. mentioning adding early 60's and late 70's, etc. to the 2nd decade reunion. Out you saying I was a "spillover" at the 1st decade reunion? That I went where I "did not belong"? Too bad ^:^ I had a great time, and besides, I was with an alumni from the class of 1960 (even if it was my sister and her husband). Judy, I guess I got confused, I thought you guys were talking about a second decade reunion for St Joe's....not HHS. If you were talking about HHS, PLEASE add me to the help list for 1964.
Yes Mo, You were a spillover...

Message: St. Joe's principal's name was Sister Mary Elizabeth (aka Sister Mary Elephant). Those silly nun's would measure our Patricia Plaid skirts and as we left the line we would roll them up at the waistband and shorten them again. Remember "Patrol Girls"? They would have "watch" on the exterior corridors and bathrooms at recess. Only 7th & 8th graders were allowed to be Patrol Girls. For the folks who didn't attend St. Joe's, we had to wear uniforms and we packed a lunch (no caf and no hot food for the prisoners). But once a month, we had "room mothers" who would arrange "hot dog day" and we could BUY our lunch that day, hot dog, juice and a bag of chips, AND we could wear regular clothes. This was a BIG DEAL. Once while I was standing at the head of the class and waiting for my grades to be read, Msgr. Redahan told me I was going to BURN IN THE FIRES OF HELL because I got a B! I asked him how he knew it was such a bad place. Had he been there or did someone come back and tell him? The nun screamed "Heratic!" from the back of the room. Needless to say the phone rang that night...too bad my PROTESTANT father answered. Too bad for old Msgr Redahan that is!! My father told Msgr to answer my question. LOL Do you think I have a problem with authority figures? That MUST have been the night my parents decided I was ready for public school.
No comment as I DO NOT like lightning.

This is "home" ... our memories, friends and our roots...a good place "to come home to".
Thanks, Penny

Hi Penny, I just looked and it's 2537 as of today on the alumni list. That IS phenomenal. That's 5 to 6 full classes worth of alumni and it's picking up steam. Keep passing the word Cougs. We'll find them all yet. Now it's 2540 as we just added 3 more.

Message: To Susan Ciampa Walling.. Oh yes!! I was there when Monsignor Redahan first set foot at St. Joseph's School. I remember that he gave us a day off to celebrate his taking over the parish. (made some big points with us for that) And how about that good looking Father McCarthy and Father Mulvahill & later Father Sutfin. Now..here's some more Catholic School memorabilia from the 50's.
1. The cloak room (why or why didn't they say "coat room"?) and how on Friday it smelled of tuna and egg sandwiches. yum!!
2. Babushkas..as the nuns called it. Better known to us as "scarves".
3. Being seated in the classroom of 62 students according to grades..
Ugh.. I always made it to the back by the cloak room. (with John Rout)
4. Mea Culpa..(don't ask) I still walk to the park to say mine now and again.
5. Holy relics ~ usually a piece of cloth from a Saint's robe.
6. Scapulars...what a blessing that was. Prayers to be said in front and back.
7. Plenary Indulgence Prayers~~to release the souls from purgatory. (I spent many a recess saying mine)
8. Before we had a parish hall, we lined up in the halls and sat on the floor to watch Heidi ~ The prince and the pauper ~ The Lady of Fatima~ and a few more.
9. The Tiding drive ~ The Donut drive ~ The Paper drive. and we know what the prizes were too.
10. The Pagan baby fund.. ??? Remember the push pins.. boys against the girls.
Now I'm off to say a few mea culpas for making fun of my upbringing.... what the hey~might as well fit one more sin in... I'm off like a prom dress. (was that a venial sin or a mortal sin?) Back to the park.. Judy DeGrazia THE ROWDYS

(don't go there John)
Regarding the 2nd decade reunion ('63-'72) that Patti Smith wants to get going..I'm all for it and I'd love to be part of it. (you now know what the door prizes will be like) Count me in Patti and tell me what you need.. How about opening it up to everyone! We really wouldn't want to exclude the early 60's people or late 70's etc.. what do ya think? Now..IOLAPD Judy DeGrazia THE ROWDYS

Message: OK, Judy (off like a prom dress) D. If Msgr. Patrick Redahan was at St. Joe's when you went to school there (WAY BACK THEN!) that would explain the many decades of Irish influence at the prison. I actually loved St. Joe's for the most part. Everything except the part where the principal (wasn't her name Sister Superiority Complex?) came around and measured the length of your skirt with a ruler, and when the nuns pulled your ponytail, and hit you on your knuckles with the yard stick, AND when they read your grades out loud while you stood in front of the class waiting for them to hand it to you. HEY, we did get 'HOT DOG DAY' and 'FREE DRESS' once a month! :) JB (both of you), I'm looking forward to seeing you guys next month in beautiful Sonoma. Janet, I have a couple of 'wine pourer' jobs lined up for us. John, don't forget my chicken taco from El Tarascos.
Hey Sus', It's about time you checked in here girl. Can't wait to see you and rest of the Walling crew, and yes, I'll bring you a half dozen chicken tacos from El T.

I shared it with some of my students. Can't say they were as excited about it as I was, but did the memories ever come rushing in. I guess nobody knows where the Achelles (Achlleas) the 1958 Greek foreign exchange student is. My daughter, who is just 16, saw his picture and thought he was very cute. I reminded her that he was probably about 60 now. Freak out! Does anybody know where Tom Cherry is?
