Message: Hi JB and all Cougars, Someone said recently lets get back to the memories, so here's some Cary style......remember swinging on the Tarzan rope at Centinela Park, swimming in the wading pool at Hawthorne Park, the parade when the fair came to town, walking to Crenshaw Imperial Shopping Center to do Christmas shopping (with ten dollars to spend)(( amazing what you could buy with ten dollars back then)), going to the Imperial Theatre with Debbie Hill to see Hard Days Night and screaming till I lost my voice, remember taking the bus to Inglewood to shop for clothes, cruising from Centinela to South Bay in my dads 64 Impala, drill team slumber party where some of the girls put a new girls hand in warm water while she slept and made her wet the bed.... I could go on but yes memories is what this site was made for. Keep it all together Cougs, we are just one big family after all. Liz

I have some old addresses from the old MIA list from my ten year reunion that I was on the committee for. I will look them up. You have my e-mail address, I guess it would help if I forward my phone number too. I will be happy to help in anyway I can. Remember everyone, this isn't just for the 80's classes, its for everyone. I've worked for TWA for the last thirty two, both as an Aircraft Mechanic "A&P", and at present as an Aircraft Maintenance Insector. We (TWA) have some of Alaska Airlines MD-83's in our fleet, and up tell now, they have been a good Aircraft for us! Of course we're doing our own maintenance on them also! Again I'm sorry something like this had to happen! We at TWA know all to well what people go through in times like this! If there's any questions you may have I'd be glad to try and answer them! Message: Robin Hood, I didn't think you would rub it in for two reasons,
1.) You are a nice guy, Despite what other people say about you,
2.)Also, being the sports fan that you are you know that U.S.C. and U.C.L.A. in that order, are Number 1 and 2, in the NATION in number of NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS won in all sports by both men and women of all major colleges. So winning this year does give you bragging rights for this year. Competition and rivalry are good clean fun but when it gets to the point of "hating" the other team its not healthy. I am glad to see the Oregons and the Stanfords of the Pac-10 get stronger when my team is in a rebuilding year because it makes the league stronger and any time the league is stronger it is better for my team. U.S.C. has three Freshman (this year) that are considered to be world class sprinters and they just recruited a fourth one, so look out in the future.
Pat Desmore, Did you get my last e-mail that I sent you. If you did give me a call. Hey, Maureen, It was good to see you on the feedback.

Message: Hey, hey there Shannon. I do agree with you on that football thing. As I recall, our freshman (1977) year we won more games than the next 4 yrs. In total combine yrs we were 5-30-2. Look on page 107 in the 1979 yearbook and that'll show you how I felt and that's pretty sad and I'm not proud of it. But, as you and I worked hard running together in track 3 yrs of it, it paid off. We may have weakness in 1 area but made up in another and as a "Cougers" we don't give up without a fight! We had an outstanding year in track starting in 1979 taking all kinds of toys home away from the other 8 schools who competed with us and why? We were a Team! You may of not seen me but I did come to a couple of the Cross Country meets and cheered you on because even though I wasn't a long distance runner, we are still a team overall. I wished the cheerleaders could of been in every sport events but can you imagine the burden that would of been? Just remember they may of not been there in person but in spirit they were. They had a hard job with many responsibilities that I couldn't handle. But, let's cherish the good times together because they were more plentful than the bad. Just to let you know, there's a fellow Cougarette that lives in Rifle, CO. She had to drop out in our freshman year but she's in the 1978 yearbook (Tanya Cusack, page 154). Hope to see ya in 2001.

Raymond Smith, you now have my whereabouts, keep me posted on the Pacific NW "reunion", and if I can help in some way let me know. I'm about half way between there and "home" (Hawthorne) so might as well hit both of 'em. Fellow C/o 1981'ers, can you believe it will be 20 years since we parted ways? Where'd the time go? I hope to see ALL of you, we need to rekindle the spirit of our youth, do we not? I mean, why else are we frequenting sites like this anyway? I forgot about all the good memories, but they are coming back in living color. Thanks to John for making this "Cougar Town" roar! One thing, Shannon Keys, I know, we should have spread our "pep" raising activities around alot more evenly, but is "friggin Bitter" worth it? After all, historically speaking, Cheerleaders and football go together like peanut butter and jelly, we were only kids. But, if I had it to do over again, we'd have kidnapped you too! Take care Shannon, glad to see you've still got that spirit and spark I knew since the third grade!

Message: It takes a big person to admit when they are wrong about something. I have something on my chest that must be said to all who took offense to the "fish food," comment made by myself a few days ago. I deeply apologize for the poor choice of words I made in my commentary. What I had meant to say, that one never know's what life brings.
To all of those who had friends and loved one's on flight 261, my heartfelt sympathies to you. Be comforted by the thought that the 88 are now in a better place, comforted by the creators love.
I honestly did not learn about the tragedy until after I made the comment. I don't really watch much T.V., nor really read the paper all that much. I learned about it at work, from a co-worker. It was never my intent to hurt or offend.
I personally know what it is to lose someone to senseless tragedy. About three years ago, a very dear friend was taken from us, Joseph Peter Becker 74' Lawndale High. He was my husbands best friend, and "brother," in more ways than one can say. He was the reason my husband and I are together today, he was our best man at our wedding 22 years ago. He was always there for his family and friends. He was stabbed 22 times, by a drunken former co worker, for no reason. 21 of the wounds were fatal.
Again I apologize for the poor choice of words.
Polly, I knew what you meant and didn't even equate it to flight 261. What I heard was, "we all better get on with living because we never know when it's all over." Nothing derogatory there at all. I'm sure most knew exactly what you were saying. I for one don't need an apology. Thanks for being a Coug Polly.

Don thanks for the comment about being mainstream, but after careful consideration I'm sure my problem was I was a wimp. I didn't join any clubs until my senior year. Yes, not being mean, and tolerance are certainly my main requirements for people on my A list.
Polly, if you won't feed me to the sharks...
My husband & I when first married had some differences in opinion which I tried to resolve with humor. But this only made things worse. Finally, he told me, that when Bob Hope went to China he was surprised what a wonderful reception all his jokes were getting, since some weren't on his "A" list. WELL, this was because the translator was telling the audience, OK, now it is time to laugh. So, come on you guys... enough acrimony....

We were taken by bus to the Magic Kingdom. 45 min. after we got there they rounded us up & kicked us out!! It seemed some of our more prominent students had over turned a couple of canoes in frontier land! Hey John I think Terry might have shot himself in the foot this time! I just happened to see at the bottom of the program his name in a little dance number? The paint job on the cushman turned out pretty good considering the size of the brush I used. I did see Myron Floren in concert at Ing. High. A part of my life that I have somewhat blocked out! Lois Marotta`s name is also on that program with Terry & I. I remember the Wilson bros. coming over to the Marotta`s & singing & banging on there old upright piano. After they would leave Lois`s dad would say, I don't think those boys will ever amount to anything! Who would have dreamed what the next 2 or 3 years would bring. To Mike Shay, keep the faith!! Powell scooters & Mustangs were cool, but Salsbury`s were kind of ugly. Vibrasonic speakers very cool! Real Appleton`s from Howards light house. That store is still there! Those big rings with the indian head or skull & cross bones & then you get it chromed & give it to some girl & you are going steady. Chuck`s muffler & his red & beige & later all red 56 Nomad & his early blue Hudson pickup. They were both featured in Hot Rod mag. Well I guess I better park this thing. Debra, Yes, it was La Fiesta (now El Torito). There's nothing offensive about saying "Mexican Restaurant"....is there? I mean come on......If you say Hispanic restaurant, that means they serve Chilean and Nicaraguan food too. No, in Cougartown it'll always be a Mexican Restaurant.
