Message: In 1964 my sister, Sheran, and two of her friends went to the T. A. M. I. show at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The acronym stood for Teen Age Music International show. It was a Who's Who of performers of the era, including The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, James Brown and the Flames, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Supremes, Leslie Gore, Jan and Dean. From England were Gerry and the Pacemakers, and the relatively new group in one of their first concert appearances in the U. S., the Rolling Stones. The show was videotaped and later released as a film and VHS tape. The concert ran very late and when my parents went to pick up my sister and her friends, they weren't out in front of the auditorium. The guard on the door said that many in the audience had already gone home and to just go inside since the show was almost over. One of my siblings rented the VHS years later, only to view my very bored mother and father in the audience in the footage of the concert. I have yet to find a copy to watch, but would surely love to see it. The Beach Boys apparently aren't in the film because of contractual issues.

Message: Michael M Kratz, I started attending the teen fair when it unofficially started at POP in 1962 I think. By 1964, KFWB had taken sponsorship and moved it to the Palladium. I don't know about any riot per se but if you were talking about having a great time then it certainly was a riot. Car shows, Battle of the Bands, and great looking women were to be found there during the fair week. There were many groups that played there too, Dick Dale, the Righteous Brothers, Fabian, and many more. One thing I still remember was how swift the lines were because there were no small children or OLD PEOPLE in their THIRTIES or more. For the Hawthorne connection, in 1964 KFWB cut a Demo that was played at the fair of a three way conversation between The Beatles, Dick Dale, and our own Brain Wilson. Brian discussed how much he liked the Beatles and Dick and Brian chatted about the Beatles haircuts.

Message: To Michael Kratz, yes my friends and I spent a great day at the Teen Fare at the Palladium in 1966. However, when Cathy Moore had eaten too much before going on the caged ferris wheel that rotates, the sight of vomit spewing from the cage was more that I could stand to watch. Unfortunately, Lyn Biggers was in the cage with her and the recipient of a shower. Thank the goodness I was afraid of heights and like the looks of that ride. Sorry John, if it is too close to dinner you can delete this post. To Donna Voss, are you related to Vickie and Connie Voss. If so tell them to start posting. There are old acquaintances who would like to see them here.

Message: YEAH! John has the sign-up sheet for the Cougartown picnic and chili/salsa cook-off. The gauntlet has been laid, now let's see who reaps the rewards. Remember, for each category the prize is a $25.00 gift certificate to Chili's Restaurants. Bring on your game. Speaking of Game, we are having lots of them. Bring your three legs along for a race, or wrap yourself in fashionable burlap for a good old-fashioned sack race. You could cool yourself off on a warm September afternoon by losing the balloon toss and getting wet. Sounds like a winner to me. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE.

Message: Back to the cream puffs....I used to use 2 tsps. of unflavored gelatin in my whipped cream when I had my restaurant. It didn't affect the flavor any, but kept the whipped cream from going flat. Maybe that's what they are talking about. MMMMM....cream puffs! My favorite on the Helms truck was the iced brownies. I can still taste them. Yummmmm.

I'm on the mend and although not back to work yet, I was going to retire in September, I'm actually looking forward to going back to work and checking out C-Town each day. It's great to be walking and talking to all of you. You get a little different perspective on life after an episode like this. Thank you again and MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU. He was with me. You can give me a call 310 903 0807, while they last. Price is still $6. Again John Thank You !! My dues are in the mail.

Message: Hello To All Ladies of HHS Class of 1962: We folks in Orange County (Calif) are planning a Class of 62 Ladies Reunion for this summer (August) and hope you all can attend. Yes, that's right, it's for "LADIES ONLY." We came up with this idea because it seems that at all the other reunions there just wasn't enough time to visit with each other. So, we figure that this event will give us a beautiful setting, healthful & delicious food and plenty to time to visit and hear what High School was really like for each one of us. So, watch this site for the details of the event once they have been determined (probably the 3rd weekend in August), should be in a week or so. Also, I will be emailing every lady on the HHS Alumni list with an invitation. If you read this email please let me know if you think you might be able to attend. We're trying to guess the number so we can secure an appropriate place to gather. Hope to hear from you. Warmest Regards, Kathy (Tift) Mandel-Reese

Message: Art is right, the Wisconsin State Fair Cream Puffs are the best. When I lived in that area, during Fair time there were drive-up windows at the fairgrounds where you could pick-up boxes of pre-ordered cream puffs early in the morning before the fair opened for the day. Gotta love the Wisconsin State Fair - cream puffs, cheese, beer, and food on a stick!
