Message: A wonderful and blessed Christmas and New Year to all Cougs. Bravo to Brian Wilson for the memories and fun, fun, fun. JB, as well as other Cougs of the era, also well remember Dennis Wilson, that "real beach boy." Today marks the day we lost Dennis to the sea in Marina Del Ray - 1982. Perhaps the somber look on Brian's face at the awards last night possibly reflects the memory of 20% of the original Beach Boys ... brother Dennis. As a classmate of (typing class, PE, history) with Dennis', I reflect on his days in my dads race shop on Broadway. Just hanging out, sitting in the racecars and asking my dad to help him with his go-kart. JB, I'm sure you'll agree, solice is present in the good days of our past. Also, JB, 50 yrs ago today marks the first 1/4 midget championship in Phoenix. You and the Effler's will remember those good ole days. Cheers 'n gears for a '08 faster than NOS off the line.
Hey Dick, Where have you been, dude? The workbench is yours but it might take some unloading. Drill press mounted to it, lots of stuff on the lower shelf, etc. I hope you don't need it THIS week Thanks man, I'll call you.

Message: What a great tribute tonight for Brian Wilson at the Kennedy Center! Although he followed the honoring of four other American legends, Steve Martin, Diana Ross, Martin Scorsese and Leon Fleisher, it was Brian Wilson's Beach Boys' lyrics and tunes that had them rockin in the aisles in the Kennnedy Center, Washington DC. Even the Prez and First Lady were shakin to the tunes played skillfully by Hootie and the Blowfish decked out in authentic Blue Pendletons over white quasi-Towncraft tee shirts (you can't find real Towncrafts anymore). The Hoot man brought his A-game along with SoCal attitude to an upbeat medley of I Get Around and California Girls. If only Lyle Lovett would have gracefully deferred to Art Garfunkel to sing BW's masterpiece, "God Only Knows", the tribute would have even been better (a cowboy can't sing this song). The love from the audience and even the international acclaim represented by the London Choir singers made for a memorable night for the #1 Beach Boy, bringing home the pride for all fellow Cougars who lived the music in years gone by.
Hey Dean, I agree wholeheartedly, and couldn't help but feel the kinship. It wasn't only a tribute to Brian Wilson, but to the Southern California lifestyle and Hawthorne in the 1960s. It took me back there tonight, filled with Cougar pride. Brian Wilson, you truly deserve this honor.

Message: I regret to report that Paul M. Evans, Class of 1972 of Lennox High School, passed away this morning. He would have been an alumni of HHS, but as he was confined to a wheelchair, he went to Lennox instead. But he did live in Hawthorne and had a lot of HHS friends. There will be no funeral services, per his wishes. However, if you wish, you may send your condolences to his mother, Mrs. Jenny Dias at 4143 S. Laurel Park Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89103.

Message: J.B. thanks for another year of warmth, humor, love and a great place for all of us to come together. What a wonderful gift you've given us. I was a 6th grade camp counselor with Tim. He was a truly good man. Kudos to the HHS Principal. I got a surprise Christmas call from Clayton Williams last week. He had a bad cold but otherwise sounded great. Earlier in the year he had broken both legs in two separate falls within 3 weeks. He said that he's shuffling but healing well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Cougs.
Thanks Ricki, and you, Jim and the dogs have a Merry Merry Christmas.

Message: I have had this saying on a needlepoint that I bring out each year when decorating and wanted to share it with you: "Never a Christmas morning, Never the old year ends, but someone thinks of someone - Old Days, Old Times, Old Friends." It's like that EVERY day in Cougartown. A very Merry Christmas to the entire CT community, my friends old and new and especially to you John Baker for changing my world. And lastly of course, to MB, whom I'd never have found again but for this vehicle - I'm thinking of you.
MB??!! MOM BIERMAN??
Thank you Sue, You have become a great friend, and someone I would have never KNOWN. Merry Christmas to you and big Daryl.

I'll send a copy of the book to the principal's office with my appreciation for her action. Merry Christmas and God Bless! Jim

Message: To Ray Smith Class of '81 (no e-mail): All four years while at HHS I could take my Christmas (and Valentine's) cards to the student store, and for a nickel a card, someone (?) would deliver the card to the recipient at their third period class, when the daily attendance slips were collected. A safe and Merry Christmas to all ![Just why does the mind remember this after 38 years; but where are my car keys?] Ho Ho Ho
Thanks Richard, I knew someone would remember that one. Have a Merry Christmas.
