Message: Wow, I'm honored to have made the top 100 posters. John, I always tell people you've set up the best alumni website bar none, and I truthfully mean that. I'd like to submit answers for Jerry's contest (no I didn't get the answers from him or hack into his puter!) but I think it'd be more fun to see if any early 60's Coug's actually remember these terms.

Message: Don't want to talk about the unmentionable, but would someone PLEASE send a qualified Head Coach to Arkansas? Bowl talk is nada, but I'm going with Mizzou-not-the-Hogs, Tulsa and USC. Don't care about The Biggie Bowl, because I've no use for the BCS system. If high schools can have successful, exciting divisional playoffs, then why can't the NCAA do the same? Our local team's going to their finals for the THIRD consecutive year Friday night and were back-to-back champions in 2005 and 2006, thanks to an exceptional coaching staff AND community support. The local radio station broadcasts live and we're world wide on nashvilleradioonline.com this year. Just wish our Cougars could get back on track - Friday Night Football's just awesome, IMO. Take it away, Jim and Leslie.

Message: JB-1...Hope we don't have to talk about football, I don't care about it anymore, My team; "Missouri" lost already! (Just kidding! I can take defeat if I really have to!) John, I wanted to ask if you or anyone recalls a place on top of "Hawthorne Hill" I believe it was on 131st Street...A place they used to call, "The Tank" it was a big round building and I believe during the war years back in the forties, it served as a USO(?) with dances for the service guys...Just wondering if it was still there? Also JOHN...You said on here about a year or so ago, that you were writing a book...So like, when is it going to be finished? Fill us in! When is it going to press? I for one, can't wait to read it!!!....David

Message: Happy Sunday to all. I had the TV, but not really paying attention and I heard them say Eucalyptus Park on Inglewood Avenue. That got my attention. Well it was a 1 hour show on Court TV, Inside Predator Task Force. The subject was not a happy one, online predators, but it was so awesome to see all the streets and hear all the chatter about our hometown. Lots of HPD officers, and none that I knew as they were younger than my kids. :o) Have a great week! Hugs, Jan

Message: Amen, I'm with you, Jim! I looked at the Feedback, last night, and saw Mary Ann's comment. I wanted to text something in also, but my Southern hospitality got the best of me. Net pulling or not, we're all from Hawthorne and we couldn't be prouder, but Hawthorne High did lead us on to bigger and better chances at a higher education and being proud of that fact, we should be able to cheer our schools on. As Paco said, "Fight On!" ESPN, FOXSPORTS Forums, etc... It was a BIG day in College Football, UCLA/USC included. I see your point, John, but as long as it doesnt get outta hand, let us cheer. It brings us together, even more. It's all in good taste and in fun. Don't be hater, John. Go Hawai'i! Aloha.

Message: Hawthorne's own Brian Wilson is one of this year's recipients of a Kennedy Center award for lifetime achievement in music. I believe the actual event occurs tonight, but it will be televised on 12/26/07 (not sure what channel or what time - as they say, check your local listings). Quite an accomplishment to be selected for one of America's most prestigious honors! Quite an accomplishment for a kid from 3701 W. 119th Street in Hawthorne! Congratulations, Brian Wilson!
In addition to Brian Wilson, the Kennedy Center will honor: Diana Ross (singer - "Supremes"); Steve Martin (comedian, actor, writer); Martin Scorsese (film director), & Leon Fleisher (pianist). - Gibby -

Message: Massive Cougar sighting! Bob and I went to the Hawthorne Christmas parade and were very pleased to see the Hawthorne Band, JRROTC, and drum corp leading the parade. They were joined later by the current principal, Joy Bramlett. Even the Mayor of Hawthorne wore a Hawthorne High Jacket. Falling in step behind the HHS students was none other than our very own, Jan Blomsterberg, proudly carrying our colors, marching with the VFW post members. It was a lot of fun and if you live in Hawthorne and have Time Warner CAble, Channel 22 , keep checking the listings as it will be broadcast later this month.

Message: Is the college football forum now open or is it limited to USC? We folks in Nebraska have important news coming up tomorrow and the Greasbys will want to boast a bit for winning the Big 12 and possibly jumping the 'mighty' Trojans into the national championship bowl, as well as any LSU Cougars who will argue that point. Playoff time for me. Mary Ann and Leeroy may want to talk about the Hogs and their new coach when that happens but not about their old one that is for sure. So what's the answer? Lots of stuff to discuss John. We're just not about nets and TV time.

Message: Well, first off, Alan Nelson, I don't know if being sandwiched between my baby sis and me is a good thing but I can tell you it is OUR pleasure! You've been loved by us for a long time and I am always happy to see your posts. And Joe Mailander, it was our honor to pledge as YOU were the hero, participating in the Run for Her, 5K cancer walk and run sponsored by Cedars Sinai. Your (our) sweet Lily is fighting a mighty tough battle and every bit of energy, support and money that we can give to the cause will help. KEK (Konnie Krislock), sis and I are headed your way for dinner and therapy soon. For anyone out there reading this, the kind words said of the Biermans pale in comparison to the love and admiration we have for all of our old - and new - found friends here in Cougartown. We consider ourselves lucky girls indeed to be admitted to this party. Thanks to all of you for making us always feel welcome and we hope we return the favor. And Cindy Maxson, I echo your sentiments as I saw my posting position and thought, geez, I must be quite a windbag - hope I haven't bored you all!

After the LSU-TENN game I flipped the channel to the USC-UCLA game and when I thought I saw you pulling those nets ... well, I squinted, pointed and yelled, "I went to high school with that guy! That's John Baker!" My family and friends were impressed and think you are someone important at USC. Fight On, Trojans!

Message: John, first off and as always, I LOVE YOU MAAANNNN!!! Also, I want to tell you something. Those Bierman sisters---you may think that they live for Cougartown. But they also stepped up IN A BIG WAY for my partner Lynn, who's fighting ovarian cancer. For reasons known only to themselves, they call Lynn "Lily" for their own reasons, but as far as I'm concerned, when they support ovarian cancer research they can call her anything they like! You know the Bierman sisters (along with their silent-partner-slash-mentor KEK) as a crew who are a vital repository of critical Hawthornian information---and maybe an occasional pain in the a#% too. But I know them as honorable loving crusaders against women's cancer---and I am incredibly in their debt! Again, I LOVE YOU MAAAANNNN and whether you want to make this site a little more networking oriented or not, all I am saying is give peace a chance and I am down with you and the nee-Biermans too MAAAAANNNNNN!!!

Message: Wow! Number 15? I didn't think I spent THAT much of my life here. And sandwiched in between the Bierman sisters as well. That's like a bonus. I'd like to help out in the Business Network, but I don't think anyone would want to be a customer in MY line of work. Now lets get 1000 more pages in half the time.
