Message: John - I'm a little late on this too, but in the 80's after we got off work at the Forum (the ushers/usherettes) used to go to a place on Centinela called "Mothers" - North side between La Cienega & La Tijera for the band and the dance contests! No upscale eating establishment that's for sure but we could win $20 in the dance contest!

Message: Another Cardinal & Gold athlete: The LA Times' reported that former Arkansas qb, Mitch Mustain, will transfer to USC. Good move for him - getting as far away from Houston Nutt and his cronies as possible. The kid wasn't treated right from the get-go and MM'll absolutely contribute to the Trojan Tradition.

Message: There was a smorgasbord I went to a few times across from Dr. Sloan on Manchester, by the Academy Theatre, in 1967. Then there was a small one just North of El Segundo, on the East side of Hawthorne Blvd. that I frequented with my family in the mid 60's. I believe one of them was called Swedish Table, but not sure. Loved Haji Baba's. Our family went to BBQ Pete's a lot, and when I was 20, became good friends with their son, Chris. When I was little, our family loved a Chinese restaurant on Manchester, by the Harbor Freeway, I believe. It was an old 2 story house. Daddy always called the water, "duck water". Both Clifton's were fun.

Message: When everyone gets through perusing the car show in Seal Beach swing on down to the Huntington pier. This weekend they are having the Guy Takayama Pro-Am nose riding competition. Then you can head over to the surf museum a few blocks away. Should be a fun weekend. I'll be heading to them after my morning surf session. I'm just now getting over being sore from the past two weeks of fun overhead surf I have been in. I am mostly sore from the long paddle outs through crazy whitewash and the currents but the incredible rides were well worth it.

Message: When I was about 4 or 5, I got separated from my Mom and was lost in that strip mall with the Five Torches and Lindberg Nutrition -- I STILL remember being really scared that day! About three years ago, my wife, Aja and baby Layla were at Santa Monica Pier to see Clarence Clemons (sax player for Springsteen). It was crowded, dark and loud and Aja wandered off chasing a bubble from the hippie looking bubble maker. In the worst 10 minutes of my life so far, we searched high and low for Aja (me carrying Layla in the heavy detachable car seat). Finally, I spotted a lady from the "Microsoft booth" dragging Aja, literally kicking and screaming, toward the stage where the lady was going to have them announce a lost little girl. THAT was feeling that she had been abducted was unbelievably scary.

Message: To help out here with the names, Mabel Langford is above Judy Taylor, Dorothy (Lucky) Sheppard is between Ron Watson and Wayne Walsh, third row down #1 is (Who can forget?) Johnny Johnston, 3-5 is Jon Brubaker and 3-7 is Joe Brandenburg. Janice DuLong is next to Mike Burris. Those are all the ones I can remember. I was new to the area in that grade, but I made some life-long friends in that class. Thanks, JB, for putting the picture up on the site. It was fun getting this picture from my good friend Nadine Fryer Vaillancourt, class of 59. I have no idea what happened to mine over the years. And Peggy, you talk about a bad hair day!! My mom had just given me a Tony!! LOL

Message: Sir George's Smorgasbord was at Rosecrans and Hawthorne. My first job, bussing tables for $1.15 an hour, plus any tip the waitresses wanted to give me at the end of the day (or night). I used to walk there every day after school from 124th Place and La Cienega. Had to go home first to change into the busboy uniform....black slacks, black dress shoes, white shirt and black bowtie....I always got a ride home though. They opened a new one close to Imperial and Aviation. Transferred there...easy walk both ways. Used to see the "Old Coach" and Cathy dine there on occasion. Talk about a mischeivious bunch of guys! The busboy crew included Steve Sturges, Larry Robertson, Brad Bristow, Steve Laidlaw, Mike Hopkins, and Don Winters. What went on behind the scenes was hilarious. Never did anything to harm the food or customers...just each other. Somehow on that miniscule salary, I managed to clothe myself with the latest duds from the May Co., Broadway, and the Boston Store.....unbelievable.

Message: I did put Jon Blankenship down twice, didn't I. Row 3-7 should be Joe Brandenburg and he still was really cute. And Jerry Strealy name was spelled wrong. I probably will be trying to think of everyone's name in the middle of the night tonight. Mrs. Walker was the greatest teacher. She really cared about all of her students.

Message: Thats it, The Royal Crest! Good memory Noreen. I kept trying to remember it but kept recalling all the surrounding places like Andy's pizza who made the worlds best subs (arguably, I'm sure), Amatos Italian and Bryans BBQ in Westchester. Does anyone remember Johnny's pastrami on Sepulveda? I still have to go over the hill occasionally to get my Pastrami fix from them.

Row 2-2 is me (Peggy Westbrook Sarvis--Great hair day!!!). Row 2-3 is Mollie Leeman. 2-6 is Pat Payne. Row 3-3 I believe is Steve Dodson, 3-4 is Karen Graham, 3-5 is Jon Blankenship, 3-6 Karen Cure, 3-7 Jon Blankenship (he was so cute) and Row 4-5 is Mike Burris. What fun to step back in time.

Message: A few years age we were in Honolulu visiting our son and I insisted on going to see Don Ho. The way he did the show reminded me of the old Arthur Godfrey TV show. Saw other shows in Honolulu that were better but Don Ho was a legend and I believe he also had been designated an Hawaiian Treasure (or something like that). Also I remember listening to Ira Cook on the radio (one of the LA stations and he played a lot of Don Ho and other Hawaiian music.

Message: I've already told this story, but now I found a color, autographed, 5x7 picture of Milwaukee Braves' Eddie Matthews I got from him when I delivered a note to him at the Coliseum from my biology teacher, Mr. Herd. Any collector interested can contact me via email. I also have my dad's collection of Dodger, Yaz and other baseball cards which I'm interested in selling, too.
