Message: With the hair styles, that group looks like the 70's Oakland A's. If that was taken at HHS -- whose house is that in the background? Sloey; be careful while eating. You have me totally confused about the thrashing of Long Beach Poly. In my next life-time as a Cougar, I'm going out for water polo.

Message: Now you can say OU and SC have something in common. Both can find ways to CHOKE. SC to UCLA and OU to Boise State. The fact of the matter is these games were two of the best this year. So Jim, I hope everything is going well and there wasn't anything broke....back with your heimlick mountain routine!!! Have a pretzel and enjoy the time until spring ball begins with another corn husker rising, " we get the convicts OU doesn't want". Cougs, we need to do something to keep our younger group eligible and pass their classes. Maybe an SC grad can show them how to get away with taking one class per semester and pass? Do you think these kids can apply for a hardship and finish high school in 5 years with 6 years of elgibility? Roll On

Message: John it was a close one. Debby and I just came back from the local steak house. In the middle of the meal, I passed out. Don't know what happened. Fortunately for me I had to wear the Oklahoma hat the Greasbys sent me because of the Big 12 game. As no one knew what was wrong with me, a bright employee at GRISTLE AND FAT [that's the name of the steak place] ran over and said, "Look out! He's choking." He got me upright and performed the Heimlich maneuver and voila I was fine. The young man said he knew I was choking. How, he was asked? There were no signs. "OH," he said, "there was one BIG sign". Look at the hat he's wearing!" Thanks Greasbys! You saved my life! [And perhaps the season!]

Message: Cleaning up a couple of items: Jim, I have Sid's telephone number and if you email me I will send it to you. He was one of two great HHS coaches then, the other being Toby. Basketball was the most fun because of Toby. We worked, we won and we stayed eligible. DUH. Russ, great picture. Who is the fat kid on your left? Looks like a guy I lived with for a few years.

Message: By the way Gary, I can tell you one thing...hope to see you in Catalina. Oh, maybe two things. I know Mrs. Ginger mark taught me some of this memory thing. So did Manny Pizzaro. I can remember, wife's b-day, anniversary, June 1961, kid's, 1 Nov, 30 Nov..Willie Brown ran for only 120 yds or so. Lonzo Irving, about 240.We got our butt kicked. Gordon Martin set the Pioneer League scoring record at 44 points in his senior year.John Wooden was in the stands when he did it. Kenny Brown from Samo(later NFL) almost got his a** kicked by Bruce Johnson in that game, We should have won by 15. Myk got a double off of me, when pitching at Prairre Park when he was 14 and I was 15.Gary Kimbrell, class of 58, weighed 126 lbs and made all league running back. I've been married for almost 46 years to the bitchenest CHICK, is that sexist? in the world. 26th street or 2-6 to the youngsters, was the greatest. Things trip your trigger. Mine was alot of growing up in a great environment. Hawthorne CA. More later. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU.

Message: One more thing...from my LHS Olympian point of view, I met a student from Boise State when I was going to Evergreen State in Olympia, WA-WA in the '80's. I compared notes; what does Evergreen have that Boise State doesn't? both are liberal arts colleges, both have teacher prep, science and organic farming programs, uhh, evergreen doesn't have a football team. BUT Evergreen graduated Steve Thomas (of That Thair House; PBS) and Matt Groening. and this year, one more thing; Boise State wins the Chips and Salsa bowl in Arizona. Really good game if you saw it (I did); Oklahoma plays WHO? WTF? And it has been the talk of Texas since Boise won. Anybody, including any varsity knitting team beating Oklahoma is an attention grabber in Texas.

Message: Coooooooooop! It's a trick question. Poly killed Hawthorne in '66 at the Rose Bowl. I can't remember the score but it was bad. That of course was the class of '67. In '65 the class of '66 beat Poly 20-0 led by all-CIF center and middle linebacker, Henry Cooper. The defensive end was none other than Jim Eakin. The QB could not throw over him, Jim was 6'5". The game was at Poly.

Message: Hello Cougars, Just want to wish my fellow Cougars a Happy New Year. I love reading the Feedback Page. I always say I'll add something and never do so. I'm making a point to add a line. I moved up here in July and miss the South Bay. I miss Kathleen Peyton and Trina Rohr and Vivian Gay. High school was so much fun. I had so much fun in Drill Team and Diaconians and singing off key. I worked in Mr. Keys' office my senior year. Does anyone know his whereabouts? Is he still with us? He was a wonderful person. He and Mrs. Lake went out of their way to make me feel special and cared for. I remember Tim McConnell '72 turning off the radio because my singing was sooooo bad. Is Tim out there? Missing the good old days.....

I just hope nobody is injured during the half-time show. I will spend some of half-time in the lavatory. (Remember when you had to go to the lavatory as opposed to the toilet.) Message: Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let you know I had a "Cougar sighting", today, at the Torrance Armstrong theatre, where I usher. Bill Schultz and Barbara Norris were there, to enjoy Mel Torme's son, Steve March Torme. What a great singer! It was so nice to see them, as it's been awhile. Happy New Year to everyone, and see you at the next "Cruise Night". Regards, Linda
