Message: Ouch! My head hurts after reading this stuff! Interesting. Some one named Humphrey - who does not appear to be an alumni - swings by (I didn?t want to say ?drives-by?) and dumps their garbage on our (really JB?s) HHS Feedback/Forum and here we are 9 or 10 posts down the road still analyzing and adding to the garbage. It is obvious to me that these people would not give any of this a second thought if they all had a Senior Square. I ask you, were there any boycott talks or problems while the Senior Square was in place? I think not! Well, all I got to say about this to put it all in its proper perspective is?Hmmm?. How about them Dodgers?? --- Baxter

Message: My great grand parents sailed to Canada and snuck across the border into the U.S.A. My Grand parents were born here along with my parents and then me. Everybody has to start someplace and a good illegal has to get a start somewhere, it might as well be here. No one has ever called me a Norwegian, because I am an American. Anyone born in this country is an American. If you are of Latin decent and you were born here, you are an American. If you are of Spanish decent and you were born here, you are an American. I could go on but I think you get my drift.

Message: Very, very sorry John but like George, I felt I had to put my two cents in. Like Neil, I have always felt that the "hyphenization" of nationalities (Mexican-American, African-American, etc.) is part of the reason this country is getting so screwed up. You live in the USA, you're American first and always! And George, if you think your "resilient and proud" Americans are going to pick cabbage, cotton or whatever at minimum (if not less) wages then you need to wake up and smell some coffee or at least head down to your local Employment Development Office and how many "legal aliens" want to fill those kinds of jobs. Your remarks upset me greatly. I'm curious George (get it..."Curious George"...never mind), George, when your grandparents came from Denmark, did they learn Cherokee or Navajo? Again I'm very, very sorry for this John and I feel you have given HHS Alumni a tremendous gift with Cougartown and it should never be used as a political forum but only as a memory forum. If this puts me on the "Cougartown "S" List", I understand. I promise never to do it again.

Message: Sheree; You miss the point, I'm sure most of your friends that you speak of, their parents and/or grandparents came to America legally and worked to aclamate themselfs to the American way of life. Most likely through Ellis Island, as did my grandparents. Nowaday, however, it seems that as soon as an illegal gets to the USA, they think we are suposed to support them. There are storefront locations in East L.A. that there sole purpose is to show and help illegals sign up for every welfare and free service that is offered by L.A. County and the State of California.

Message: Diana - I learned a little bit about our nation while at Hawthorne High, that was during the civil rights days & Vietnam Era. It is supposed to be One Nation under God, not a nation of seperate "isms , wazums, and spazums"...It is "Politically Incorrect" for any one to distinguish another based upon race, creed or color. Yet nowadays the "popular thing to do" is to be part of a special interest group so you can claim to be "oppressed". I personally become offended when any group of AMERICANS place their "ethnic" agenda before the GOOD OF THE COUNTRY. I am an AMERICAN first & foremost, I am not a Scottish American, or a Norwegian American. If I offend someone it is my personal problem, because I AM AN INDIVIDUAL AMERICAN. I do not wish to be clustered together with an entire sub-class of individuals who happen to have blue eyes & blond hair. Yet every day we are bombarded with separatist agendas specifically initiated to tear apart Our Wonderful Nation. It is wrong to seek to affect to undermine the liberty you already have by intentionally prefering an ethnic or racial agenda above the allegiance to the flag & country. As an American I stand in Allegiance with any citizen of the USA, I could give a rip about what color or ethnic inclination they are! If any one disregards my nations laws in order to simply come into my country to profit from what many sacrifice daily to protect, then they are an offense to me & my country and should be considered to be enemies and labeled illegal ALIENS. I would hope you would prefer to be an AMERICAN rather than a LATINO...but that is your individual choice and you must deal with your own responsibility as a citizen, when you offend others by placing skin color or family background above allegiance to your country.

Message: OK, well let's see, let's not get crazy here, it's supposed to be a good place to remember all our good times that we shared. And I remember sharing them with friends, I didn't care about race, where you were born, where you lived, we all just had one thing in common, getting thru the grade we were in not making "butt" doing it. Now this has come up and I think we all need to take a step back. Maybe we should all go see Flight '93 and remember we all are "One Nation Under God" maybe when we took God out of the Pledge of Allegiance we lost sight of what we as Americans are all about. We are all immigrants, I am German, I have friends who are of African, Spanish, Scottish, French, Mexican, Italian and English backgrounds, I could go on and on. We need to work here together as a country, to make this country what it always was, a melting pot and the best Damn Country in the World. My oldest son is now overseas, fighting for our country. As I said remember what happened to us as a country, we all died on 9/11. All races died on that terrible day and we all tried to pull together at that time. What happened? As a country let's see our differences and instead of pointing fingers, let's try to see what we can learn from them. Find our common ground, work together and be above all this. We are all immigrants and lucky to be born here or raised here by parents or grandparents that wanted a better life for future generations. We should not pin the actions of others on a whole entire race. Jesus, like Rodney King said "can't we all just get along"?

Message: Diana;
You opened this forum; and I have to respond. I went back and read Ms.Humphries message and I don't see anything offensive in it. She is making a statement and unfortunately is right on, Latinos are at the forefront at this time. You are right, Latinos are not the only illegal aliens that are creating a problem in the USA, however, they are the biggest abusers. If, as you stated, they (Latinos) would get a College education, preferably in there own country before sneaking into ours maybe they wouldn't have to pick grapes and mow lawns for a living and suck our welfare and medical systems dry. My grandparents came to the USA from Denmark in the early 1900's and could not speak the english language, however, that was one of the first things they did was to learn the language. I worked in East Los Angeles many years as a Deputy Sheriff and observed third generation welfare recipients who could still not speak english and did not want to work. the bottom line is, if you chose to leave your country and go to another country, then learn their language and culture, because you chose to come here, we did not ask you to come.
It appears that a vast majority of of immigrants, legal and illegal have left their hearts in the birth country and the only thing they brought to the USA was their belly. They have no desire to become US citizens and/or learn our culture IF THEY, ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS DON'T LIKE OUR COUNTRY, THEN WHY DON'T THEY ALL GO BACK HOME. We USA citizens are a resilient and proud bunch, and I'm sure we would find a way to get by without their presence and we might just be able to balance our state budget without the drain on our free services.
J.B. Sorry about this soapbox response, and I know it does not fit your prerequisite, Re: HHS but I had to respond.

Message: In response to Ms. Hunphrey's statement on Latinos must think with their brains and not their emotions. That statement greatly disturbs me. It is not just Latino's that are boycotting on Monday. It is your misconception that only Latino's are illeal which is not so, there are many races here illegally. I fill your comment was made irresponsibly. Before making a racist statment it would behove you to educate yourself with the facts and not your emotions. As you say think with your brains and not emotions. I am a Latino with a College Degree and then some (Trauma Nurse). I never really thought of myself as a Latino until today. I have never had a racist remark thrown at me nor have I ever been treated badly. My four years at Hawthorne were the best and I never thought I would read something like this on Cougar Town. I am dissappointed. A little bit of education can go along way.
