Message: As a past president of the Diaconians, allow me to offer my congratulations....so happy to hear this organization has continued to serve the community. That is quite an accomplishment and a feather in the cap of good ole HHS. Sorry I can't be there in person.....geography and the 91 on a week night prevail.
Thanks Laura, I know you were there in spirit.....

Message: Hi, Everyone! I haven't been on CT. for quite a while. It's good to read about some familiar names. Hi, Ricki Ferrell, Mo Trott, Fernando Worrell (Is that you Bob, My "Old" Middle League buddy), Frank Romano, Barbara Duran (I know how that brother of yours is doing, but how is your mother these days?), Jim Peppers (How many years has it been?) John Baker, We are on a little trip right now. I am sending you this feedback from Chico, Calif. We are leaving Wed. for Angels Camp and will be there for a week. Are there any "Cruise Nights" or "Pinks Runs" planned in the near future? Thank God I'm a Coug, Royal Lord
Hey Royal, Good to hear from you. Actually the next Cougartown event is our Golf Tournament being held on the 22nd at Costa Mesa Golf Course. If you can make it we'd love to see you out there. Thanks again, tell Pat hi, and have a great trip.

Message: Lee Ann, I remember archery at school. My arrow always just fell in front of me too and the bow string would catch my arm, ow! Needless to say it wasn't my favorite sport.
I think I mentioned this before, but we used to ride our bikes to the sand dunes at the end of Imperial with BB guns and bows and arrows strapped to our backs, to hunt bunnies. That would have been about 1957 or 58.....times have changed.

Message: Sunday at the VFW sound like a great time. Count me in. Let?s make it a Cougar Event! I?ll pick up the tab for any current or past faculty member of HHS. A great way to say ?Thanks for the good foundation of my education?. It is also for a great cause. Hopefully we can get Roberta Burket out. I once played Monopoly with her on someone?s front porch. The next thing I knew I had her as my English teacher. Can?t wait to see Judy (my favorite Prom Queen), Jan (the Master Pancake Flipper), Mo (the Supreme Promoter) and who ever else shows up. B-girls, can you make it? Just look for the bald guy with the hat on! Come on down John, I?ll buy you breakfast also! I'll be there at about 9:00 AM.
Wish I could Bob, but have a few things going on this weekend. Among them, my new grand daughter is due any day now. We'll see.

Message: I just got this from Mr Viet Tran HHS 96:

ATTENTION ALL FORMER HHS KNIGHTS AND DIACONIANS

PLEASE COME TO A HAWTHORNE CITY COUNCIL MEETING, TUES, MAY 11, at 6PM AS THEY HONOR THE HHS KNIGHTS AND DIACONIANS!!!

For the first time in Hawthorne High History, (at least according to our records...) the HHS Knights and Diaconians will be honored by the City of Hawthorne City Council for winning the top awards at the Rotary District Convention this May.

The Knights and Diaconians, sponsored by the Hawthorne Rotary and known in the Rotary World as the HHS Interact Club, swept all five "gold" awards in International, Community, Youth, Special Projects and Overall Club of Distinction and beat out over 27 high schools in the Southern California area. This is unprecedented as this is the FIRST time we have won the top prize in every award category.

Hawthorne City Councilman Gary Parsons will present the honor to the current HHS Knights and Diaconians at 6pm, at:
Hawthorne City Hall.
4455 W 126th St.
Hawthorne, Ca 90250

Please join us as we celebrate HHS' oldest service club.

Go Cougars!

Message: It's Mother's Day, a Hallmark day for sure. My mother will be 84 next month. Born in 1920, she survived the depression, World War II and life with my father. LOL She still goes to work every morning at 5:45, to cook and serve breakfast and lunch, for hundreds of kids at one of the middle schools in Hawthorne. She's been doing that for years. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a PTA president and the mother of six. In the fifties and early sixties she had maintained a schedule, not unlike the army. On Mondays she baked our bread, from scratch, and did the wash. She'd carry the baskets of wet clothes out to the backyard to hang them with little wooden clothes pins. On Tuesdays she ironed them. On Wednesdays she cleaned house. On Thursdays she did the grocery shopping and on Fridays she did it all over again. She drove me to my ballet lessons and my brother to his drum lessons, Vicky to guitar and Sharon to her band practice. She had dinner on the table at 5:30, every night, year after year. Each dinner included a bread, a vegetable, salad, milk and meat, and on Sundays there was a homemade dessert. Her apple pie could win blue ribbons. Every morning she cooked breakfast for each of us. Oatmeal, toast, poached eggs and juice. She nursed me back to health and strength after I broke my back, after my tonsils were removed and after my appendectomy. She told each of us, daily, that we were special. She told us that God was all around us and in us and that we could do anything, even after our worst behavior. She told us we were beautiful, even after being sick and in bed for days, when we knew we looked like hell...Mom always said we were beautiful. She taught us to be polite, to be honest and to take care of others, less fortunate. When my brother died, it was my mother who was the tower of strength. She held us all together. My mother gives and gives and gives and like the Energizer Bunny, she just keeps on keeping on. My aunt used to say that my mother was a saint, I think she may be right. I hope you all were so lucky to have a mother such as mine. Happy Mother's Day. I love you guys! Elizabeth

I have told many people that have moved out of state that they are silly and shouldn?t complain about the weather or how much they miss good old Hawthorne. As I sit here shoving that big black bird into my mouth and talking my first bite. CHOKE GAG CHOKE GAG . I am moving out of state to a place where the weather is clean and clear, with the blessing of my Doctor and my family. MY entire family lives in (choke gag bite chew) Oregon. My Asthma just won?t clear up here in the smoky valley and when the heat is turned up I gasp for air. Choke gag choke gag. We are checking into Klamath Falls, just over the border in South Central Oregon. Rent is cheap a three bedroom two bath house is $500.00 and up. So I should be there by the start of the next school year. So if I have ever (choke gag) said anything about your living out of state I am (Choke) truly sorry. John, that bird tasted nasty.
Good Luck Pat and say hi to John (HHS58) and Cheryl (HHS62) Nicocia, who live about 10 miles outside Klamath Falls right on the Klamath River.

If we can get 150 people the cost will be around 75 to 80 per person if we have more the price drops. The price includes 4hr cruise dinner dj pics, and bar with soda and juice. Drinks and parking are extra. we're looking at mid Aug. so if anyone is interested in class of 74 30yr reunion email me. Our window for this event is closing fast.
James, Please don't rely on the class of 74 checking the feedback page in the next few days, as lots of people only check it every month or so. It would be better to email everyone on the alumni list from your class. Thanks....
