Tonight's the big night for the Terps. Let's see if they can survive the Gators.

Message: Hell-o everyone, hope you all had a great holiday..I was working hard, retail time was big here, especially at Cone 9, we rocked...Haven't had much time for the computer so haven't read much of CT..But was wondering if anyone ever bought their Christmas Tree from Jimmy Josephs lot. I think it was on 137th? Curtis A. stayed there and watched the trees at night...My brother, Dave Collins, Bob Anderson to name a few would gather there during the holidays to spread joy to the tree buyer...sure they did....Love and Peace to all of you CT readers Kell
Hi Kell, I thought that lot belonged to Harry Joseph..... Jimmy's dad. Thanks for the memory. I remember Jimmy had a maroon '62 409 Chevy I would have loved to own.

Message: Hey John - I still exist!!! I'm glad you guys had a white Christmas (I'm assuming you drove 99 and not I5 to get there!!) Now that the new year is about here and the self-inflicted stress of the holiday season is subsiding, I hope to become a regular member of Cougartown again. I'm also hoping to get together with my brothers (Tom and Gordon Bell) late in January, in Chico, so that we can celebrate Dad's 85th. Reading back a few pages, I enjoyed your descriptions of OJ's feats on the football field, and I especially appreciate you picking on the 70's kids. After all, there must be some advantage to being the older kids.
ME, PICKING ON SOMEONE??!! You must've been reading someone else, huh Janet.
Glad you're back Myrna and tell dad, "Rusty Bell", John says Happy Birthday.

Message: Hope everyone had a loving and fulfilling Christmas...and Happy New Year to one and all! I was just wondering if any of the alumni who had gone to Washington Elementary, remember Mrs. Hopkins( kindergarten teacher), and Ms. Donahue (1st grade). They were a big influence on me as I entered school. They were the kindest and sweetest teachers ever...they showered me w/all kinds of attention and made me feel so special! I even remember Ms. Donahue sometimes sitting w/me during lunch...(can you believe this Sicilian gal was so shy and timid, that she needed her teacher for extra security, it only took me till my Sophmore year at HHS to come out of my shell!!) Some other teachers that I remember as also being exceptional were, Mrs. Fraser (who drove a cool looking Jag), and Mr. Johnson (I had a BIG crush on him, what a cutie he was/Is). I think that it was his first year teaching (6th grade)and I was
the teacher's pet! Mrs. Fraser (fifth grade) was kind and caring. I remember she would read to us often. One particular book was called "Island of the Blue Dolphins". I still remember to this day the story line, and how well she could capture our attention for so long!
I still see Mr. Johnson in the school yard at
HIS, he's still a P.E. teacher. I ran into him at Manhattan Beach some years back, and yes he is still jogging along the beach, still looking cute! He had to go thru about 4 other siblings names until he got my name right! Can't believe he recognized me after 30 yrs!
Well, I should of posted this when everyone
was remembering their teachers that inspired, touched, or just made an impression on them, but being the middle aged gal that I am, (the old brain is not what it used to be!). On another note, there are so many Nicocia's, that I thought I would give you an update on a couple of them. My younger brother and sister, Annie & Nicky (74), do not have email addresses, ... so, if anyone wants to get in touch w/them, just write me.
Just a quick note on what's been going on w/them:
Nicky lives is Palmdale, and has 2 children, Rhianna 18yrs, and Andrew 14yrs..and they are really BEAUTIFUL kids!
Annie lives in the hills of Sherman Oaks, and has one daughter, Christina who is 5 1/2 yrs., going on 15! She is just like her mother, BEAUTIFUL, SMART, and full of ENERGY!!. She is the apple of my eye! I am very much a DOTING AUNTIE!!...and just love to spoil all my nieces and nephews, that at last count added up to be eleven!! You know how Sicilians are...many, many children do they have!!
I'm ramblin' now, and must go...before I get into
my other sisters updates, and that would cover a couple of pages! More later... :-)
Ciao, Enza
Thanks Enza, When I get the picture, I'll add it.

Message: Dear John: Just wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas before you head out for your yuletide adventure. Last year at this time, the class of '74 was mourning the loss of our own Mike "Big Mac" McClain and this year we have spent it reconnecting with one another and taking/making opportunities for special visits. Cougartown continues to be the main catalyst for all of that. Whether as Cougars or as Americans, we all have learned a lesson about how fleeting time is and why it is important to come together whenever and wherever possible. I wish you all the magic of these special holidays, the love of your families far and near and friendships everlasting. And I hope it's not too cliche to wish for Peace on Earth....
Thank you Sue. I don't know WHY you aren't a writer. You lay words end-to-end in such a beautiful way. Ctown has reconnected me with lots of former classmates and friends from Hawthorne. It has also connected me to NEW friends as I travel along MY length of time. Before it ran out, I was very lucky to have found the Bierman clan. What a fine all American family from Hawthorne.
Big Mac, I was very lucky to have known you, albeit for such a short period. If it hadn't been for this website, I would have never had that honor. Geez, I'm ramblin here. Take the time to connect and reconnect, Cougs. There're lots of great people out there.
As far as that Peace on Earth statement goes, there'll be Peace on Earth as soon as we kill that no good SOB!!!
I LOVE YOU GUYS MAAAANN!!!
Have a wonderful Holiday week.......

Message: Merry Christmas to this large, slightly wild, but wonderful Cougar Family.
This has been the year that Cougartown has brought back so many people into my life. Thank you, John, for making this possible. A day wouldn't be complete without checking "Feedback" a couple of times. And I still am aglow from that great "Prom Night 2001".
Best wishes to you, George Key. How nice to hear that you are doing well and meeting Cougars in unexpected places. Aren't they a wonderful group of people!
Happy New Year everyone. May all of your wishes come true.
Sincerely, Bob K.
Thank YOU Bob for being a part of the memories, small talk, and just plain zaniness that emanates from these feedback pages. I hope you realize how special the teachers/principals are to all Cougs. I wish more teachers would jump in with a story or two.
You and yours have a wonderful holiday and thanks again for being out there.

Thanks Keith, and yes, I don't pretend that the South Bay competes with Hawaii for glorious weather. Please send the pics along and I will put them up.
You and yours have a wonderful, although snowless, Christmas Season, and thanks for being a part of Cougartown, Keith. You add so much and I do mean that.

Message: In response to Lyman's post I am compelled to say MERRY CHRISTMAS! Remember always the reason of the Season! To my biking buddies a dry, windless path and of course, sand free with no dogs or inattentive Grandpas or out of control worms heading toward us or surfer dudes that just can't wait to get to the next set. Best wishes to everyone on this most wonderful time of the year. Last night our neighbor came home from the tree lot with her tree. She came over to ask if i could help her get it out of her back seat. Visions of my brudders story filled my head as I looked and saw that it had been put in BUTT first. Before I could even ask she told me how she hated the tree and complained to the owner and the two boys who had flocked it but suddenly before she knew it the tree was in her car where it remains this morning. After two hours of tugging it is indeed a mere twig of its former self.
Yes Jim, You ARE the "MIracle Worker", and tree trimming Christian neighbors are VERY lucky to have you around.
Maybe she could decorate it in the car.
Have a great holiday, Jim and Debby, and please be careful of all Strand hazards.
