Message: We have an early score on the USC-OREGON game. 0-0. I believe its politically incorrect [is that a total oxymoron or what?] to use the term damn Indians irrespective of what group of Indians you are referring. By the way Ted Turner was asked to change the name of his Atlanta baseball team so as not to insult one of those two groups, maybe both, he has taken it under advisement but a spokesman for the Braves today said that they had real reservations concerning that issue.
We'll get some negative smoke signals from this Feedback.

I got my Cougartown tee shirt yesterday, just love it. This is my first time to add to the feedback, I am sure it won't be the last. John did you receive my car pictures?
God Bless Cougs.
Hi Pat, Yes I received your car pics and as soon as I re-locate them, I'll put them up. Thanks.......

Message: I don't know if the newspapers in other towns are carrying this news, but the Washington Post today is reporting that "The Justice Department has drafted legislation allowing the U.S. attorney general to lock up foreigners deemed to be terrorist suspects and order them deported without presenting any evidence." It's too bad it's come to this, but it's about time - we're at war now! The full text for the article can be found at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52767-2001Sep18.html
I downloaded a leaked copy of the draft legislation, which is so new it doesn't even have a number yet (i.e., it's labeled HR____) One paragraph speaks of ammending (8 U.S.C. 1228) to read: "(6) Recommendation to the Attorney General.- The commissioner, after consultation with the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, may recommend to the Attorney General that an alien be certified as an alien the Service has reason to believe may further or facilitate acts of terrorism as described in section 237(a)(4)(a)(i), or 237(a)(4)(a)(iii), or 237(a)(4)(B), or any other activity that endangers the national security of the United States, which recommendation is not reviewable by any court."
I recommend everybody write their senator and representative in support of this draft legislation. Do it now! I sure hope the courts don't try to block this - the ACLU and others will certainly raise a fuss. What's it going to take to get action - will we wait until a biological or nuke attack to take action on a bill like this? Will our political correctness be our Nations undoing? We're at war and it's time for extraordinary measures. I wonder what Mr. Heisner would think?
First of all, why would you DEPORT a Terrorist? Either hold him here, so he can't cause problems or HANG HIM.
Oh Scarlet and Gold, our colors unfold........does anyone have a Hawthorne story?

the Full Sail Amber in the Eugene Hilton waiting for his brother Chris
to show up. Seven and a half hours! It was like being back in college.
Robin, wasn't Ramona an adopted Native American girl? I seem to
remember reading something about Philippe and Alessandro. The trollop! Don't be bitter. There just wasn't room for EVERYONE at York School. (especially now since they've torn all of the buildings down....)
Now see, there's a BIG difference between the 60's and the 70's people right there. We never called it Cattle-people and Native Americans. It was always COWBOYS and INDIANS.

Message: Just some random observations on the first day back at work after the the bombings....
My office is two buildings away from what was the World Trade Center. I left the apt. extra early to give myself plenty of time to get downtown and deal with whatever lay in store. The subway was quiet, too quiet. As my train passed through the Chambers Street/WTC station (closed), the conductor asked us to remember the heroes.
The trains ran only on the C line, because the E train ends at the WTC and that part of the station was destroyed (I used to come up out of the subway every morning through the WTC). The train was only 1/3 full, instead of fully loaded.
Coming up onto to Nassau Street at John, I looked to the west and saw the first glimpse of destruction. The pictures in the papers and on TV don't do it justice. Going past the National Guard and the NYPD to get into my building felt like some war scene. From our boardroom on the 47th floor, I just looked down on the remains of the south Tower, rubble covering Liberty and West Streets. One eerie sight: all the trees on the sidewalks and on the plaza facing Liberty Street are incinerated--nothing green in sight. Across West Street, beyond the WTC remains, were the scarred buildings of the World Financial Center, one of the most beautiful office complexes in Manhattan. The Winter Garden, an awesome three or four story glass atrium is nearly buried in rubble. Only the American flag hanging off the side of the American Express tower lends some brightness to the scene.
I was lucky--we had left for Milan the night before. We watched the horror on RAI and CNN from the safety of our hotel room. We all know someone who died in the air or on the ground, or someone who lost a friend or loved one. Many in my office watched the second jet virtually fly by our building before slamming into the south Tower.
Manhattan is still quiet, at least lower Manhattan, except for the sound of sirens and helicopters. The air smells of burnt wood, as if the Santa Anas had brought on brush fires like back home. The skies at dusk have that same eerie glow as well.
I think life in this city will be different for a very long time....

Message:Hey Cougs...for those who have not ordered your Prom Night Memory Book...all orders and money has to be in to John Baker by this Friday, September 21. The cost is $20.00 each. As mentioned in the Memory Book order page we said we would be taking orders for thirty days after the dance...and that time has come. So if you have been putting this off now is the time to fill out that order and mail off your check. Come Friday we will be closing out this chapter of Cougartown's participation in this event.
I want to thank all of you who attended the dance...without your participation it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun as it was. We had alumni travel from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Georgia and Hawaii, from all over California...and many of you came here from Hawthorne...from your roots. No matter how far you traveled I hope you had as much fun as Judy and I did...and we came from that faraway place called Torrance! And for our committee members and our helpers...I want to thank you...you did a great job...my hat is off to you!
Be a Coug forever...now let's go kick some butt...Semper Fi and God Bless America!

OK Cougs instead of the 30th, it's the 21st, If you want a memory book. Thanks Jan.........

We ended up spending a few extra days there because of the flight delays caused by Tuesday's catastrophe and the (then) tropical storm Gabrielle (you know you are in trouble when you look out the window of the hotel and see that they've tied the potted plants to the posts!). Message: How deeply sad I feel. Sad but interestingly, not hopeless. A testament to my American values? Whatever it is that drives my determination to rise above this horrible tragedy, I give thanks for it.....and it is that which makes me want to have something stronger rise out of the ashes of the WTC. I DO want to see a rebuilding. Not an empty hole or park and memorial which would only serve as a frightening reminder to OUR citizens and a symbol of victory to the evil which created it.....I would propose a stronger building on its site - perhaps with each office or suite being named in honor of one of the victims. I think THAT would be a lasting symbol of the strength of character which could endeavor to rebuild. To Vickie Arestegui: I cannot stop thinking about your sister and hope that knowing that others care and mourn for her along with you will help you feel the hope that I have.....
I agree.....If we keep putting up memorials and parks, this country will be overrun by gophers. Let's rebuild it as a memorial AGAINST terrorism and FOR the people who lost lives and their loved ones..
