Message: Hi Everybody, It's really great, the way we are all able to connect here, during a time like this. I haven't seen a note yet, mentioning the Candle-Lighting that will be taking place, across the nation, tomorrow and thought it is something Cougartown might want be a part of. Tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 14th), at 4 pm (4 pm our time, 7 pm Eastern time), word is being passed around to encourage everyone to stop what they're doing, and step out the door, or stop your car, or step outside from where you work with a lighted candle. This is being done across the nation as a symbol of our unity and strength, against terrorism and in tribute and memory of those who have lost their lives or are grieving losses at this time. It is also being designated as a "Day of Prayer" and all are encouraged to wear red, white and blue tomorrow. Hope this is huge and links our hearts, and resolve to be strong, in a big way.
Penny

Thanks Penny, as I hadn't heard about it. I'll join in and encourage all on the website to do the same.

Message: Just a thought: Economics is driven so much by mass psychology. If there is panic selling and market crashing when they reopen on Monday it will mean that the terrorists have won. As scary as this is, we all need to keep our money (retirement funds, etc.) in the market so that the ripple effect of this stuff is minimized. Staying the course with the economy is a specific way that we can fight the terrorists and prevent them from winning. Join me.

An open letter to a terrorist:
Well, you hit the World Trade Center, but you missed America. You hit the Pentagon, but you missed America. You used helpless American bodies to take out other American bodies, but like a poor marksman, you STILL missed America.
Why? Because of something you guys will never understand. America isn’t about a building or two, not about financial centers, not about military centers. America isn’t about a place. America isn’t even about a bunch of bodies. America is about an IDEA. An idea that you can go someplace where you can earn as much as you can figure out how to, live for the most part, like you envisioned living, and pursue Happiness. (No guarantees that you'll reach it, but you can sure try!) Go ahead and whine your terrorist whine, and chant your terrorist litany: "If you can not see my point, then feel my pain." This concept is alien to Americans. We live in a country where we don’t have to see your point. But you’re free to have one. We donšt have to listen to your speech. But you’re free to say one. Don’t know where you got the strange idea that everyone has to agree with you. We don’t agree with each other in this country, almost as a matter of pride. We’re a collection of guys that don’t agree, called States. We united our individual states to protect ourselves from tyranny in the world. Another idea, we made up on the spot. You CAN make it up as you go, when it’s your country, if youšre free enough. Yeah, we’re fat, sloppy, easy-going goofs most of the time. That’s an unfortunate image to project to the world, but it comes of feeling free and easy about the world you live in. It’s unfortunate too, because people start to forget that when you attack Americans, they tend to fight like a cornered badger. The first we knew of the War of 1812 was when England burned Washington, D.C. to the ground. Didnšt turn out like England thought it was going to, and it’s not going to turn out like you think, either. Sorry, but you’re not the first bully on our shores, just the most recent. There’s a spirit that tends to take over people who come to this country, looking for opportunity, looking for liberty, looking fo

Message: I've had a good day today. I attached a flag pole and full size American flag to the top of the windshield of my old Mustang convertible. I didn't know what to expect as I ventured out into the People's Republic of Eugene with Old Glory flying above my head. The response from people has been great! People honking, giving thumbs ups, waves, smiles. The Army Reserve is on my normal drive to work. All of the young men and women were out in the workout yard as I drove by. Several very tough looking drill instructors saluted or waved as I drove by. I've been smiling ever since. It seems to me that the shock is wearing off and is being replaced by a righteous anger. I'm reminded of a quote from a Japanese Admiral immediately after the devastatingly effective bombing of Pearl Harbor; "I fear that all we have accomplished today is to awaken a sleeping giant". He had no idea how right he was. Today, someone, somewhere, is about to find that the United States of America is the LAST country on this planet that you want pissed off at you!

Message: I just wanted to say to everyone who has lost a family member or friend from this tragedy, I am deeply sorry for what has happened Sept. 11th. My prayers go out to all of you and your families. This was totally wrong, and I agree with most of the nation that when they do find the people behind this disaster, and the people/countries that have harbored them there, they should feel what we have felt the last couple of days. I have no problem voicing my opinion and will boldly stand and announce it at anytime for my country! It's making me sick to hear that some people say "that if we go to war with these countries for what they have done, think of all the innocent people who will die from it". Look at all 'our' innocent people who have been slaughtered! The way they planned and carried out this attack was pure evil. And I believe they deserve what is due to them, individually or completely..

The young ones need that comfort and guidance so that we can teach the new ones. Don, thanks for your words of protection, you have a point. But, I understand where the He-Cougs are coming from as well. You are correct, John, this is AMERICA and we have the FREEDOM to voice our feelings and the BALLS to back them up! Our nation has been swallowed up by apathy and political correctness, now it's time to take off the lace and put on the leathers! It's about time, too!! The only reason we have not been invaded before is because we as a nation are armed and ready, not just the military, but the citizens as well. And as a nation have been known to kick ass. The American people are mad as hell and are giving old George W. the opportunity to show us what he is made of. We have had enough and are ready to open that can of Whoop-ass and pour it all over those bastards. By the way...where do you get one of the antenna flags?
"Our nation has been swallowed up by apathy and political correctness", I'll believe that all right.

Message: My thoughts and prayers go out to ALL who call this country home. I live and work near the Pentagon and had at times during the first several hours of this nightmare thought that we were alone, that the rest of the country was somehow spared. I have since come to realize that the whole country is in pain and that a strong resolve to seek an end to this maddness is pervasive. An attack against innocent people whether at the WTC, Pentagon or the "immigrants" who look like the animals who carried out this massacre should never be tolerated. Let us hope that justice is carried out with swift completeness.

They either hand them over or start rebuilding there own country. We need to not stop till every last one is gone not in jail, gone dead. Message: It didn't take long for the BS to start. I've already received hoax e-mails about the WTC/DC attack being predicted by Nostradamus. From the FW/FW/FW in front of the messages, it's obvious they're being forwarded around. Please folks, don't fall into this trap and send this junk "to everyone on your list". Now is not the time to perpetuate rumors and feed someone's sick ego. Fly the Stars and Stripes, say a prayer for the victims and their families, wish God Speed to the rescuers, kiss your kids, call your folks, and count your blessings. We will get through this. We are still the mightiest Country on the planet. Our faith on our maker will see us through. God Bless America!
AMEN!!! Please do not send this trash to your friends. It means nothing.

Message: I have spent the better part of these last two days answering feedback from hundreds of employees at work. They are distraught, tearful, and overwhelmed when talking to our customers who are in NY or WDC and who are telling them about loved ones they have just lost. Many of them are young people who have never really had to understand what "war" meant. Vietnam was some place they heard of in a movie once. And, they only know Pearl Harbor because of a recent production. Well, their innocence is sadly gone and they don't really know what to do next. But, one thing I notice in all their messages to me, the word "diversity" has now been replaced with "unity" and they refer to themselves as "Americans", without the hyphen. It's about time! But what a way tragic way to learn.

Message: Max? That precisely is my point for my last post. As many know I spent a good part of my youth from the age of 17-20 on a foreign soil doing what my country expected of me. Maybe it wasn?t the right place to be according to some and as time has gone on I would have to agree, but for us then it was. We did have a sense of duty and we were doing it for what we thought at the time to help preserve our way of life. We didn?t come home to ticker tape parades & fanfare and that in itself does bother us somewhat. The kinship we Viet Nam vets do feel with the Desert Storm vets is that we too during the early years had that war almost won and were not allowed to finish the job and that in itself is what bothers us vets the most. I can only reiterate that we should not commit ourselves to any type of war if we do not intend to finish the job. And Sloey yes maybe us old war horses should go. I may be a little slower & a little more banged up but I?ve done this job before and would do it again to stop any more harm from coming to any of my fellow countrymen & countrywomen and maybe help save some of our young men to be able to get to our age.
Anyone coming to Cruise Night?

Message: I will be wearing my Red, White and Blue tomorrow without a doubt. By reading this feedback, it appears that someone knows someone who was directly affected by this attack. I am no different. My cousin, Aviv was at work at the WTC, his office was the third building that collapsed. He was already gone by that time (Thank God). But this is not the first time he has been in harms way, in 1991 he was in Isreal when Sadam was bombing the hell out of Isreal, it took Avi about a year to recover from that experience. My Cousin is a survivor.
I have been pretty stoic throughout this whole thing and have managed to keep it together for my kids sake. But on my way home from work, I had heard on the radio about a man who called his wife in New Jersey on his cell phone, and told her that the men had taken a vote and that they were going to somehow thwart the terrorists. He had already known about the WTC and figured that another landmark was in jeopardy. He knew he was going to die, and told his wife "Have a good life, and take care of our baby" This was the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. I dont mean to depress anyone further, but this one story has stuck with me. Those men are heroes, and in the last few minutes of their precious lives, they died for their country.
We are fortunate to have this webpage, I dont feel so alone during this time. Thank you fellow Cougs.
