Message: Happy Birthday John! Don't feel bad about the plaid shorts and Hawaiian shirts, my 18 year old has been dressing like that since 10th grade. His favorite is the bright orange prison pants his uncle (a sheriff) gave him and his purple, green and turquoise hawaiian shirt. Just make sure the socks you wear with your sandals are argyles. It's a statement thing. Now on to the schools. Since I am working on my degree (teaching credential) as we speak and have seven kids that are or have been in public school I have to respond on this one. The education in our schools has changed! My kids are required to take much harder classes than I did! I took 1 year of math (that's all I had to take) but was required to take 4 years of PE? The kids are working much harder now than in the 70's. Counseling at my kids school is very good and the kids are very informed about what they need to do for college entrance. If California has such bad schools why is the Academic Decathlon winning team, nationwide, from Simi Valley? Tests aren't everything. They are only an indicator and can be affected by many factors. Most teachers work hard and if they get the cooperation from home, the kids will succeed. My HHS education made me a good student and must have helped me because I made the Dean's list last semester. With seven kids I'm glad I can remember where the college is located at this point! With some support from parents and the community our schools can be turned around!
Orange prison pants with a red and green Hawaiian Shirt, and argyles with high tops.......hmmmmmm.......that could work. Thanks Dawn.....

I am particularly interested in finding out if anyone knows the whereabouts of Pamela Anderson from class of 68. She was in my wedding and we lost touch MANY years ago. BTW, I am STILL married to the same guy... David and I have 32 years together now and 4 kids.
I will be emailing a few of ya sometime in near future to catch up on things as I missed the last reunion. HHS office wasn't much help when I called a coupla years ago to see if there was one scheduled.
Thanks to the dude who puts this together! A time consuming project I am sure, but well worth the effort.
PAM WHERE ARE YA?

Thanks Marilyn, I'm sure someone can help with your quest for Pam, and welcome to Cougartown......"The Dude"

Message: John in reading the last few pages of feedback I have begun to worry about CT's "G" rating. Hood's Velvet thong, waxing the King just to name two. Additionally, there is the matter of the "Kings" birthday present. Since nothing has been located that is of a significant status for our "King" I have decided to have something made. Velvet is such a.....Shall we say used fabric. And everyone knows that real men don't really like soft undergarments. Real men want support. Because of this and because waxing can take a great deal of the "Kings" time.... a combination gift is being hand crafted. A world renowned seamstress, directly related to Rumpelstiltskin is painstakingly working to construct a combination thong and athletic supporter. A special grade of extra fine thread is being used. And yes a suitable replacement for the velvet has been located and imported. It will eliminate the need to wax. Don't worry JB, this fine grade of EZ Care Sandpaper is washable, stain resistant and never needs ironing. It gives a entire new meaning to "Ironweave" don't you know. Happy Birthday JB. God love you and keep you. RCG Frank
Hey Frank, What a great way to say thanks for all you've done....... sandpaper underwear.......Gosh I'm all teared up.... or at least I will be when I wear those babies for a day I don't know what to say except, well....did you ever here of Penneys Towncraft? No, just kidding.... not really but.... And as Bartles and James used to say, "Thank You For Your Support"

Message: Hey Janet (Pealy) Burkett .. regarding John Boy's 56th Birthday.. I was being kind by neglecting to mention that, I've actually seen him make you get out of the car..run across the street.. to stand patiently in an empty parking space while he circles the block... I've also heard that everytime someone lets in a fly, he rolls up the newpaper and follows it around swatting the air until it's either out the screen door or dies of old age.. How's that for becoming a SENIOR John Boy.. (does it ring any bells) HAPPY 56th Bunky.. Love you madly, JUDY WUDY... THE ROWDYS
Yeah but I always let Janet out at the crosswalk, and besides the fly thing is absolutely not true as I don't follow a fly around the house with a rolled up newspaper........I use a magazine.

Message: My comments were not made to upset anyone, and that's what I'm feeling out there. But just to let you know, I too am VERY involved with my daughters school and curricular activities. I am on PTA and booster clubs and I assist coaching my daughters soccer team, which she still plays for Hawthorne Region 21. I also know Larry from AYSO, and I know he's had his hands full too, with all these issues. It's not my daughter that I'm worried about, I know she has her head on straight, it's the other eliments out there that frighten me. And that I have no control of. My hats off to you for keeping a 'tradition' going, but I just had to look at the whole picture and the move to me was the right choice.
Always a cougar too.

Linda, I don't think anyone's upset. You sound like a very responsible parent that wants the absolute best for your daughter. Thanks for your comments.

Message: To Sharon Leach Moore.. YOU GO GIRL!! I've often wondered why adults think that the teachers (anywhere) have the task of raising their children. A teacher's job is to teach. Long lasting, hard discipline begins in your home. (now who hates me)
On another note..unbeknownst to a lot of CT readers, CT'S King John is having his 56th birthday this week.. SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG GUY! Now that you're a legit SENIOR CITIZEN, no one will ever laugh at you for any of the following:
1. Wearing plaid shorts with an Hawaiian shirt & wearing your sandals with socks.
2. Using your senior card at Lenny's & get the Grand Slam with a discount.
3. You can order something "BLUE" at a bar.
4. Shake your fist & curse like a drunken sailor at those "whipper snappers" on the road.
5. Last, and listen carefully Bunky.. when you hit this age and you doctor asks you if you'd like a Bud Lite~~~don't expect a cold glass of beer.~~ Your hearing is going out on ya and he really said, "It's time for your Butt Light"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN BOY! MANY MORE! We're gonna die together Bunky, but not before we all go back to Hawaii in May.
Love from all the ROWDYS!!

Man, am I THAT OLD!!! Thanks Judy for the official birthday greeting and thanks for the card too.......So like what's so uncool about Socks with Sandals anyway? and those young kids never could drive, and.......

Message: Okay, here's my two cents. Teachers are not babysitters, they are educators. Too many parents leave the raising of their children to the schools and do not participate. They do not show up for parent teacher conferences, open house, sports activities, etc. I believe that parents like Larry and Loretta Cuiper make all the difference. Most teachers work very hard, are under paid, and put a great deal of their salary back into their classrooms. My sister, who was a teacher in El Monte for over 25 years, bought paper, pens, and sometimes books, so her students wouldn't have to go without. She had to sell real estate on breaks and in the summer so she could make ends meet, thanks to low teaching salaries. She has her Master's in education and for many years I made more money as a legal secretary than she did as a teacher. But she never complained, that was her choice. What I'm trying to get at, and probably got side tracked is -- no matter where your children go to school, if you don't help them with homework, find out what's going on in their personal lives, who they are hanging with, and just generally get involved, you're going to have problems wherever they go to school. I just fell off my soap box and high horse.
Thanks Sharon......well said.

Message: Thank you Karen, you said such nice things about Larry and I. All we have done is take care of our children the best we could and (Stay true to our School). You are so very right when you said it was mismanagement in the past, BUT they have been trying to change things, and since Ernie Chacon was voted on the school board, we are seeing a change. Yes, it was true three years ago the classes were over crowded and not enough of books, but slowly it is changing. When I said our kids have to work hard for their grades, that is exactly what I mean, these kids have to pass their classes. If they don't have the credits to graduate, even by 5 credits, they DO NOT get to walk on Graduation day. In the past you got to walk and went to summer school. They changed this just a few years ago. The District really is trying to help change things. The one thing that I was trying to say was that, you should not always believe what you hear, that it is important to seek out the information yourself and that your child needs you during those teen years and really get involved in the school, see for yourself what is going on. I know for a fact, a few cities around here keep what problems they have going on in there schools, quiet and out of the papers. It really all comes to one thing, your child is the one to make it or not. No matter what school. AND IM GOING TO REPEAT THIS AGAIN, THE TEACHERS AT HHS ARE GREAT, THEY WORK VERY HARD TO GIVE OUR KIDS THE BEST. I SAY "GOD BLESS THEM". John, Thank you and I promise, I will not get on my band wagon again, I think I have said enough....Always a Coug
Thanks Loretta, I think we need you and Karen at the next board meeting all right. Getting something by you two at a board meeting is harder than runnin' through a Pit Bull Farm with Bacon underwear on.
