Message: Today is the National Day of the Teacher and it goes without saying we had some of the best. Everyday, in my own classroom, I recall and steal some of their best material. I can never forget their contributions to my life. Some are still with us, unfortunately many others have passed. Mrs. Mark and Mr. Gerald (Uncle Gerry) Smith come immediately to mind and I regret that I will not have the opportunity to thank them for their time and talents. Ms. Krislock, Mr. Macha, Mr. Levine and so many others helped mold me into the teacher I am today. You have my gratitude and respect. Thank you for giving so much of yourselves to so many who have sat in your desks.

Message: The day finally arrived. 6 months ago, I gave notice to my employer (Moss Adams - CPA firm) that I was retiring on May 2. It's kind of like thinking about Christmas in June. It's a long way off and it seems like it will never get there. But as always, it finally gets here. Well yesterday was my 1st day as retired & wondering what the next chapter will hold. Ginny (my wife of 44 years) said she would let me have the 1st week as a vacation and then would roll out the "Honey-do-list" that she has been creating forever. Whatever lies ahead, I am looking forward to it with gusto.

Had a Cougar sighting at an all day outdoor music bash in Lancaster. Ray Castillo and his wife Debbie. We had a good visit and the music and sun was fun! Hope all you Cougs are doing well. I'm enjoying checking out the site again. God bless ya all.

I remember playing Tennis with you on many occasions. I am glad your hearing is improving. Mine sure is getting bad! The older I get. I have a question for the 78 Reunion Committee. Will you guys have a time when the doors will be opened for people who would like to visit our old friends? But dont want to intrude on their fun? If someone has decided already let me know. Thanks.

Message: Hi Guys, Just thought I would let you know that Russ is in the Hospital. I took him to the ER on Thursday morning and he has been there ever since. He had had diarreah for 7 days and was super dyhdrated. His body was in shock and had a total kidney shutdown. He has a small bowel obstruction, which appears to be dissolving now, had a fever, very low blood pressure and both are mostly normal now. When your body goes into shock alot of weird things happen so now he also has high blood sugar, the doctors feel that will correct itself once he gets better. He gets really short of breath when he moves around so they will be checking on that. He still has diarreah and they can't figure out why. He has an infection going on in his system and they can't figure out why. Right now he has a kidney Doctor, Respiration DR and they will be calling in a Gastroentrologist, hopefully today. I am spending most of my time at the hospital with him. He is staying at St. Lukes Hospital and he can have phone calls if you want. 208-706-0521. He has always been awake and says he feels fine. The nurse and I keep asking him if he would tell us if he didn't? Probably not! Love you guys and will keep you posted. Judi

Message: For all the disappointed golfers out there, Rich Sloan has 2 foursomes to play on Saturday. If you've already made plans to be here on Saturday anyway, you are welcome to play with Rich and the boys. They are still playing at Westridge Golf Course (first foursome teeing off at 8:16am). No Shotgun start, but hey, it's still golf. The address is 1400 So. La Habra Hills Dr. La Habra CA. Call Westridge (562-690-4200) for weekend rates. If you've already paid for the Cougartown Classic, that money will be returned to you by Jill McFarlane Jaynes and doesn't apply to this weekends round of golf with Rich Sloan. Are all of you totally confused now, I am.
Thanks Cougs!!

Message: Hi Jim. The part I left out was that I did get a ticket, but was let go after they checked with Harry Philipp to make sure the car wasn't stolen. They let me talk to Harry while they had him on the phone. The amazing thing about that night was that the officer let me drive the car and follow him to the police station. Don't think that would happen today. Harry and I continued on to the Wich Stand after I picked him up from the Food Giant and got a burger and laughed about it and then continued cruising the A&W to Wich Stand loop for a few more hours. Typical Saturday cruise night in the 60's right? HaHa

Message: I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Williams passing...when I've looked back, he's always been for me, the teacher who has been the most treasured and who influenced me the most. As he did for so many others, he was more than a teacher...he continually encouraged me to have confidence in myself, to set higher goals and to be proud of the artwork he inspired me to create. At a time when we were on the edge of a nuclear war (Bay of Pigs) John Kennedy was our President), many of us were fearful...I remember we found relief & sanctuary in his classroom as we shared our feelings. Mr. Williams was our respected friend, counselor and inspiration. I am so sorry I never made the call to him that I had always planned to do...My heartfelt condolences go to the Williams family.

Message: I was very saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Williams. By far, my most memorable teacher at HHS. I still have my art work from his classes framed on the walls in my home. A diligent task master with the best of intentions and care for his students. Thank you Mr. Williams for instilling in your students an appreciation of the creative process and the arts. I will be forever grateful and we will miss you.

Message: Golfers, It is with much regret that we will be postponing this weeks golf tournament. We have had several last minute drop-outs which has left us ineligible for a shotgun start at the golf course. I will be issuing refunds this week. If I have received your check, but not deposited it, I will mail it back to you. If you have sent your check out, I will return it to you. I understand that many of you had made travel arrangements to come to this. Bud, Wade and I are truly sorry for the inconvenience. We do plan on rescheduling this tournament towards the end of summer. We will also re-evaluate the pricing. Of course it?s simple economics, the more players we have, the cheaper it will cost. If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you for your understanding.

Message: Growing up in Nebraska, I bet you thought I was going to talk about The Huskers and their new coach Bo Pelini and their new athletic director Dr. Tom and how the pride is back since the wimp left town on a rail, no I was going to say how we treasured the month of May and the beginning of warm days and especially the chance to play baseball. It was also the my little brudder's birthday, Cinco de Mayo but we knew none of that then. It's a great month, my wife's birthday on the 1st, Brudder Billy today, Happy Birthday Bro! May you enjoy many more! Also another dear friend on Wednesday but that's for another post. Geez I sure hope I don't forget. And the gentleman whose post went on and on, I went back and read it after Cindy said what a great post it was and you know what, she was 100% correct. It was a great read. But what happened after you went to police station? Today we would have had ghetto birds and TV cameras. John Baker has done it again!

Message: Well, it's MY turn to beg all the class of '78 to attend our 30 year reunion on August 9th!!!! It just wouldn't be the same without a huge turnout! Don't let another 10 years go by and miss the chance to connect with fellow classmates! The worst thing could be the possible passing of a fellow classmate and the regret.....geez! I didn't mean for this to turn sad BUTTTT, we all (the committee) would LOVE to have everyone there! Even those who are friends with people from '78 you are more than welcome to attend, the more the merrier! We all know we had friends from upper and lower classes. So with that said, I hope to see more signing up, it's getting closer and closer!!!!

Message: Mr. Williams had the greatest and the most profound effect on my creative abilities than anyone else, including some very talented instructors at El Camino and The Art Center School of Design. While at HHS I had him for two classes everyday, and for that I am truly thankful. Down through the years I was teased repeatedly about not knowing Spanish because I was drawing in that class instead of learning a second language. (I failed Spanish twice at HHS). Many, including other teachers at HHS, said I was wasting my time, that I would never use my creative talent, with the exception of Mr. Williams who kept encouraging me to grow and take risks. At my age my wife will tell you I continue to take risks in business and as part of the creative process. I was the founder of GMT Studios in 1981 where I have remained the CEO for the last 27 years. (GMTSTUDIOS.com) I still design key art for motion pictures, do graphics for the studio, a series of web sites and last year designed a 6,000 square foot contemporary home in the Spanish Hills of Las Vegas where Lebron James, (The NBA Star is my next door neighbor, and Nicolas Cage lives a few blocks away). Go to; newvegashouse.com where you can see Mr. Williams impact is still having its effect on my design ability. I am deeply saddened at his passing and always planned to give him a call. To thank him for his contribution and continual support and the fact that when you failed he never gave up on you. To his family, thanks for sharing him with the rest of us down through the years. There was only one Mr. Williams. Alan Hauge 1961
