Message: Hey Golfers here is the current status on the golf tournament. We have 16 golfers signed up as of today. I just heard from Wade and he has 7- 10 more who have committed, I have also heard from three more alum who plan on attending as well. However that still leaves us several golfers short of the MINIMUM we must have to proceed. I have notified both Jill and Wade that we will keep the sign up's active through April 15th. If we dont have the required number of golfers then sadly we'll have to cancel this years event. If you're thinking of playing or want more info please contact any of the three of us. Best, Bud

Message: PLEASE, PLEASE sign up all you Golfers (so I dont have to). The truth is I have tried to play Golf and it didn't turn out very good. Not only did they take away my clubs but the balls and the keys to the cart. Then to make it really bad they didn't give me my a free hot dog pass, something about a window and ducks. So I will not be playing but am bring someone to take my place. I am coming out to see old friends that I have been looking for over the years. So please help out by signing up to play. Thanks

Message: Hey John, great picture of the Optos. Where did they practice at during the week? The 66 Tigers practiced at Hawthorne Intermediate. I lived on 130 St about 50 feet from the main entrance. On my free time I was always there playing basketball, baseball and Football with all the kids from the neighborhood. Hawthorne Intermediate was my back yard.

Message: Hello Golfers, If we're going to have a Cougartown Golf Tournament this year you have to sign up VERY SOON. Please do it now as we need about 40 golfers total and have less than half of that now. The golf day has to be paid for in advance and we're rapidly closing in on the deadline. If you're planning on playing, please go to the golf page and sign up. Thanks very much...

Message: Mr. George Keys, You are correct about Hawthorne High School sits on a former Airport. The yearbook you are asking that you saw a picture of it was in one of my sister Yearbook. I think it was in the 1976/77 yearbook or the year or so before that. That is how I discovered Hawthorne had 2 airports! I have to find that book and find out what kind of airplane was shown but surely it had to be some 1920's or 30's aircraft. If you like airport history there is a DVD called ONE SIX RIGHT that shows Burbank Airport in it's early to present days. It showed how many airport that USED to be in the L.A. area and what is present. I'm sure Hawthorne was caught up in the Air Craze. I would love to see the LAX Air shows of the late 30's where they even had air races. I often wonder why Mr. Northrup picked Hawthorne for his plane building. Did someone (or farmer) sell the property? What was there before? Or was Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce was looking for more business? Oh I love to hear if anyone has infro.

Message: I played one year (when I was 9 -- 1970) in Hawthorne American and then they changed the boundaries and I was sent packing to Aviation. I have a couple of black and white action photos but my team photo from that year is missing. Of course I returned to those Hawthorne American fields in '72 for an All Star game against Wiseburn where I struck out as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded, two outs and down one run. As I say these days, music is better than sports because it doesn't let you down as much.

Message: Been lots of notice of the Macha family As stated Pat and Cindi were twins and wonderful people. Did you know their Dad was on our School Board? When I was pricipal of Lennox High before coming to HHS, Mrs. Macha was my PTA president and the most lovely and helpful lady there ever was. I was playing golf on the Western Ave golf course when the Flying Wing came in to land and I still hold a grudge as I looked up to see it and hooked my ball out into the street. Did you know the early airport in Hawthorne was where our football field is now? I had a long rollout photo of it with the WWI planes on the field. There is a picture of it in one of our yearbooks. Don't remember what year.

Message: Just finished my taxes (can you say refund - baby?) and thought I would get a little Cougar time in. And speaking of taxes, after 38 years as a CPA, this is my last season... Put in the ole papers... My retirement date is May 2, 2008. Don't think I'm ready for a rocker and TV quite yet... I'm hoping to teach one class at American River College in Sacramento as well as still working with a couple of my clients... Did I say retire? I really meant to say... just going on to the next chapter in my life. Had dinner with Royal & Pat Lord last Friday. The following Monday he was having a knee replaced... so he is probably ready to return to his great days as a pulling guard. Great to be a Coug!!!

Message: John,I don't know any of the guys on your 1956 Optimidgets team. But I can tell a couple of things about this team. First, you had tough, old school coaches who didn't give you hugs and kisses just for showing up. Coaches Schroeder and Wolverton probably got the best out of this team and made you compete hard. They remind me of some of the best coaches I had in Little & Middle League-- Bill Baird, Bill Tamburrino, Warren Scott, Walt Duvall and Mel Mack. Now, the other thing I can see is only the Boll brothers knew how to wear their hats! What is with all the creases and folds? No style points for you guys. And poor Robert Wankel- man he would have taken serious abuse for that name, a little too close to a Wanker.

Message: Ron Reinholdson, if Mike Reinholdson is your brother, tell him hi for me. We spent time in elementary classrooms together over at the Lutheran school on Inglewood Avenue. My father, who was on the school board there and also labored to create Aviation Little League so young boys would have a place to play, just had a little league field named after him posthumously. The ceremony was on Saturday morning, March 12, at the Del Aire Little League Opener. If any of you attended, please tell me how it went. No one told me about it until the Friday afterwards, so I missed the big day.

Message: A little late in posting but I wanted to share a wonderful Cougar Sighting of sorts. A memorial service was held on March 1 for Justa A. Velasco, the mother of Milagro Velasco (HHS'74). It meant the world to Milagro to have Mr. Keys attend the service. Milagro has a very special bond with our former Principal and it warmed my heart to see the effort he put forth in order to be there. But Mr. Keys wasn't the the only special guest from HHS. Ms. DeMattais (Mrs. Davis), Milagro's most influential teacher from high school, made a surprise appearance for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory reception following the service. Turns out Vivian Yarnell( Vivian Gay HHS '74) contacted Mrs. Davis and arranged for the surprise. Trina Nikolic (Trina Rohr HHS '74) and I were also present and were delighted to finally meet the wonderful teacher Milagro had talked about throughout the years. Milagro was so happy to finally thank Mrs. Davis for the positive influence she had on her in high school and beyond. Today, Milagro is a teacher herself. Imagine the lives you are touching in the same way, Milagro.

Message: I haven't been on here in awhile. Been really busy and just forget. Anyway been catching up on Cougartown. I saw Sharon mention Dana Krimbow. I hope he isn't in Hawaii. All this time I was there and never saw him. Unreal. We were very good friends growing up then after Dana he went to Mira Costa and I never saw him again. He was ranked 3rd in his age group in the world in surfing. He gave me a board that had WaveTrek Surfteam on the bottom. Everyone thought I must have been a good surfer but all I did was paddle around. A couple things. Does anyone here work at the main Torrance Library across from the courthouse. If so tell me. Also, does anyone live or has been to Essen, Germany. If so email me I have some questions cause I am going there and want to know some stuff. Also, glad everyone is doing good here. I was saddened when I heard about Danny Rael. We talked more at our 20 year reunion than just about all the years in high school. I occasionally watch the video that our class did for the 30 year reunion. John Achrem did an unreal job. Other than that everything is going great with me. Moved to Vegas to open my flagship gym here. First of 4 here in Vegas. The website is
here I can't wait. Finally got everything together.
