The Plaza Theater was not a "High School Hangout" but more or less the
"Saturday Afternoon Baby Sitter" for mom and dad. You could go to the Plaza on Saturday
and for 35 cents you saw 2 movies, 4 serials, and 35 cartoons. It was a great place
for adolescents to spend their Saturdays, and a great way for mom and dad to get away
from their kids for the day. I believe this building could have been saved as a part of the history of Hawthorne.

Looking like a scene out of "The Last Picture Show, the Plaza sits proudly erect, waiting for the wrecking ball. I remember standing in a line that wrapped the building almost twice to see "Superman and the Mole Men". |
